 Last spring I decided to tear out an existing structure on my property and build a 16' by 20' garage with 9' walls. I planned the project myself and hired contractors. In the end I could not be happier with the results and with the work done by the people who helped, and NO  a vehicle has never entered this beauty of a man-cave garage. At the time, when the work was being done, I told people that I would put some comments online but time got the best of me. Better later than never.

THANKS -

 Thanks to the people in the Town of Milton Planning & Development Building Division where permits are obtained for helping me with the planning of this project and for answering many of my good and dumb questions.

 Thanks to Mike at Cation Excavating Limited from Milton for preparing the lot for the slab foundation. - 416 771 4213

 Many thanks to Gill from Gilluco Construction Limited from Acton whose name kept popping up during my initial research on the project as the best guy to make concrete slab foundations and monolithic slab foundations. He and his crew formed and poured an incredibly strong thick monolithic slab for my garage that will seemingly last forever. Control cuts on the smooth concrete floor will eliminate any chance that my floor will crack. - 519 853 2031

 Many thanks to Roof Truss & Components Ltd from Rockwood who built and delivered the roof trusses and who when a small problem was discovered with the product they happily and promptly resolved it.

 Many thanks to Brendan Lis from Bliss Homes Inc. from Milton who was patient enough to deal with my particular requirements and built me a super strong structure and sheathed it with 1/2 inch plywood. Brendan was without doubt my number one choice for the project. He is a busy man framing anything from entire homes to garages, to basements. - 416 209 8674

 Many thanks to Cory and Serge who I know personally. They do not normally do private contract work but I was lucky that they agreed to do my job. Their workmanship with siding materials is unsurpassed I was fortunate that they took the time to install the siding, soffits, fascia, and gutters on the garage.

 Many thanks to Lloyd from Strata Roofing who installed the shingles. - 905 299 2372

 Many thanks John at JMC Concrete & Interlocking Ltd who has done work for me before and in this case replaced our side porch with a new concrete porch with steps and a walkway to the garage.

 Many thanks to Ventilation Maximum from Montreal who built me a couple ridge vent bases for their fantastic 301 roof vents. Usually these vents are installed on the slope of roofs and one of these vents can replace many typical vents. In this case the garage is not heated so ventilation is not required. I just wanted these vents installed on the roof ridge because IMO they look cool  Ventilation Maximum - 1 800 665 4874.

Looks great! Judging by who the owner is I'm sure it's been inspected thoroughly and will be problem free for years to come. :D

Thanks craiggerz and Gecko.

There is one final inspection needed by the town that I will have done in the spring 2017. To pass that I need the steps properly placed below the door at the rear wall of the garage.

Would it not have been better to instead use a lower-profile solar vent on the roof than one of those ineffective eyesores?

Nice garage - 4/5. I'm jelly. Every honourable man who pays his bets should have one.

Like I said, the garage does not require ventilation so a solar gizmo would not be something I would want. Yes, when those 2 Ventilation Maximum 301 vents were installed on the roof ridge there was some initial debate in my mind and with neighbours as to how they looked but in the end everyone I know likes them and what strangers think about it is not relevant to me.
