Aside from gaming laptops, I need to buy a new regular laptop. Any recommendations on a good unit, like a Honda Civic of laptops?

Asus is most popular when it comes to recommendations. But I think that is because people don't like recommending the big 2, Dell and HP. I had a Dell XPS for years, and it was a solid system. And XPS has there own support line, so you get help much much quicker. And I would not discount looking at HPs new OMEN line of laptops. They just came out and little reviews have been done, but it's looking like another serious contender for gaming.

Best to stick with the followings...

- Best video card you can afford 960M (minimum)
- SSD a MUST
- Minimum 1080p screen, maybe 4K/UHD 3840 x 2160 with your budget.

Just keep a look out for the best Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal you can find.

Keep an eye on the Microsoft Store online. They always have SOLID deals with "Civic" of laptops. Just stick with a minium of i5 CPU and purchase a SSD drive this black Friday and you'll get a good laptop that will last you for years.

This is bit more then I was recommending, but close to give you an idea...

I bought a gaming computer for my son two years ago from Crave Computers based on references from this forum.

The owner Chris Derkson was awesome to deal with as well as his staff.

My son is quite happy with the product....I wouldn't know a gaming PC from a regular one.

+1 for Crave (Chris) The tower I'm using Chris custom built, the SSD drive is a must.

When I used to game strictly on laptops it was always either Asus, MSI or Sager/Clevo.
https://www.xoticpc.com was where everyone used to buy their stuff.
But that was good 5-8 years ago, not in the laptop game anymore.
