So, 7 & 10 year old are using Chrome books in school, more than IPads. Any recommendations? Don't really know too much about them.

Hard to recommend something when we don't know what it is going to used for. What are you going to be doing with it?

Probably pretty basic stuff. She said it's for her kids that are 7 and 10.

I think Apple had a big play in schools 4 years ago (in Halton) and then it switched in the last 2-3 to Chromebooks.

It probably is because most of their work is now on the 'Halton Cloud' (aka Google Cloud) so the chromebooks work well with that.

The other part is cost -- an iPad might cost you 500-700, where a Chromebook is more like 150-300.

I bought an Acer in the US for my daughter but its an Xmas gift so I don't know if its any good or useful for her... most of her friends have ipads and iPods and mean parents won't let her (at 9) have either. I like the Chromebook because although its portable, its more likely to be used at a desk in a central area vs. an iPad taken into bedrooms for chatting. My two cents.

I teach that age group and while many of my students have tablets, they much prefer to use Chromebooks for doing school work. One of the main reasons is the physical keyboard but Google Apps for Education have also been a real game changer. So much of what they do is now online (Google Docs, Sheets, online video editors, cloud storage, Google Classroom) and the Chromebook is generally easier to use for these kinds of things. The cost is also a factor (you can usually get 2 Chromebooks for the price of 1 iPad).

As for which one to buy, the more you spend (better memory, etc.) the longer it will likely last them before they need an upgrade.

Thanks for all the helpful info. A teacher told me today, that the Chrome books are in demand today at HVPS, but that they are going back to IPads. Still might get one, though.
