| Post subject: | Why did you line up? |
We have absolutely no regrets about spending the better part of a week 'camping' in the Mattamy parking lot. While I kept thinking "What the f*** am I doing here?", I now look on it as an investment in our future, and a means to an end. We have friends who live in this community, and while visiting them, hearing how much they like their house, and Mattamy, and speaking with the neighbours, we decided that this is where we'd like to live. We'd spent a lot of time with realtors looking at resale homes that might meet our criteria for our new home. In order, we were looking for a large lot (suitable for a large deck, gardens, and a pool), an open concept floor plan with a large great room / kitchen area, and a community/street that we'd like to live on. This seemed like an impossible dream with resale, so we decided on the Mattamy developement in Milton. In conversations with the people in the sales office, we heard about people lining up for days for the previous release. They told us that the first person in line showed up on Wednesday for the Saturday opening, however that was for a release of only 18 homes. We thought that since there were hundreds of homes being sold in phase 12 & 13, the line up would not start until Wednesday at the earliest, so we made arrangements to be there from Wednesday on. Our hearts sank when we got a phone call on Monday night advising us that there were already people in line. We wanted to head out immediately, but knew that we both HAD to go to work in the morning, so I joined the line at about 11:30 Tuesday morning...again, with no regrets. In our case the release may as well have been six homes as we were looking for that larger lot and that was our number one prerequisite which was non-negotiable. Being number 20 in line guaranteed us nothing, and I'm not certain that if all of our (pie shape) larger lots had been taken when our turn came, I might not walk out without buying a house. So with essentially six homes being released we lined up and happily purchased lot #118. We are thrilled with our lot, our house, and our great neighbours, and the week long line up will be a story that gets told over and over again. Since a lot of people who didn't line up walked in on Saturday and Sunday and purchased nice houses in a nice area, lining up was not neccesary in order to get a house. No one knew ahead of time that the prices would go up on Saturday so that wasn't a factor, just a nice bonus. I'm curious what reasons others had for being in "Tent City" for a week, and what got you there sooooo early? Jim |
