Had a quick look at the menus for this year's Winterlicious in Toronto and have to say that it isn't what it was like 5 or 10 years ago. Used to be able to get a good sample of existing menus in really nice restaurants but now seeing 2nd or 3rd tier type meals...pastas, beef cheeks, braised beef, blah blah. I remember fantastic meals at Canoe, Rosewater, Auberge de Pommier but alas, change isn't always good. Glad for my past experiences but I think it's run it's course.

This is excellent Milton-related news.

I think it's very telling Milton news, that you're in for a drive for a meal worth paying for. This will turn into another shawarma thread, shortly.

Is Subway taking part this year?

I hope so!

With 3 weeks of threads on only the first page, I would think we should be encouraging dialogue and discussion and save the sarcastic and uninformed comments. (unless that's the real goal, to drive everyone away!) I remember when a single week would fill up this first page with humerus and witty banter and some interesting facts as well. I even enjoyed the daily musings of Cactus Jack and Prickly Pete RIP. I guess they got fed up over time too and decided enough was enough.

Oh well, times have changed and it's a lot meaner out there.

I don't think we'll be seeing those two sons of two guns around here anymore.

To point, we will partake of Winterlicious this year, we have in the past, and yes things have changed. I think the upper and mid-range restos have gotten a bit annoyed with these kinds of schemes, where it's basically like a WagJag, cut-rate volume selling, meals served to dedicated one-timers and cheapskates who would never have come to them in the first place, and who will never come back. The point of these things is to increase exposure, and to coax people upmarket for the next time at full price. It's not some kind of altruism or philanthropy, strictly mercenary. See you at Luma!
