Anyone know of a good place for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? Thinking about putting my kids in it. Recommended age to start and good club. Thanks.

We went through the same dilemma when we were deciding what martial art to put our kids into.

We looked into Jiu Jitsu as there is a club in town that was quite inexpensive.

The main concern I had was that I read in a few places that the throwing/body slamming/etc that comes with JJ can be harmful to little growing bodies. We ended up with Taekwondo.

One of my friends and 4th degree black belt is about to open his TKD school in Milton on Nippissing, if you want to check him out. The school is 95% ready, should be ready to open doors in 1-2 weeks. 2 of his 4 daughters are also black belts (My son is now as well, I an a black stripe, one step from black belt, but sustained a knee injury that's sidelined me for a while).

Let me know if you're interested in checking him out.

In terms of age - I used to assist our instructors and anyone under the age of 5-6, unless VERY mature, just doesn't have the attention span to properly train. It's more of a fun exercise program for them. My son and daughter both joined with they were 6. I think this is the same no matter which martial art you look to join.

Gracie's have a place in Bolton if you're passionate enough to commute. That'd be a lifetime of bragging rights for any kid!
