Hello,

Last night we had a periodic knocking sound coming from within the wall (inside wall) of the house. This was in a specific area, every 5 seconds or so. After some investigation, flushing one of the toilets upstairs cleared the noise. Then it would come back after a few minutes. We turned off the watermain and flushed out all the taps to clear any air build up in the system. Noise went away for about 15 minutes, then it started again. Eventually we turned off the watermain and went to sleep. What could be causing periodic water hammering? I checked appliances and any leaks, couldn't find anything. I'll check again, any ideas?

Thanks for the help!

Have you noticed an increase in water pressure lately?

No I haven't, but this is the sort of thing I wouldn't normally notice. The shower heads have built in flow control. Is there some pressure regulator somewhere in these houses? It's an 11 year old Mattamy home.

You should have a pressure regulator (pressure reducing valve) at the main supply line/meter. Depending on the type, you can adjust it with a screw driver or a small wrench. I would check the pressure first though with a water pressure gauge before you do anything, to see what your actual pressure is (typically with Mattamy built homes they are set low which is why so many people complain about crappy pressure).
