Hi,

Can anyone recommend someone who can fix a broken A/C unit. The filter has been changed but it does not cool the house at all. Also, how long should an A/C unit last? Any help would be appreciated...

Try Mason at

He's the usual go-to guy around here.

Let Mason inspect first. It might just be a capacitor that's broken, which was what happened to me last year (the fan would run, but you wouldn't hear the whirring from the AC condenser outside). Had it replaced and it was working again. My unit is serving in her 12th year (Bryant) and it's still strong.

Good luck. Hope you get it fixed soon, it's hot AF.

Another +2 for Mason, he's the real deal for us.

We've gotten lucky I guess, into the 15th year of a Carrier unit, no problems at all. We're not AC junkies though, we like oxygen. It needs to be stinkin' hot before we turn it on, and set only to attainable temperatures.

Welcome to my world bro. My compressor is pooched - $1300 later and I’m installing this bitch tomorrow. You know how goddamn humid it is right now? My balls have never been sweatier.

Nice Fiskars weed puller. I have the same one.

My mid life AC did not start up this year either.

I turned it on, stood at the window, and wondered when the dang fan would start at the top of the unit but it did not.

Lucky for me - went outside and did a light hammer-fist to the top of the unit and presto-bammo, it started up and has been running since. :) Damn, that was lucky.

That’s the wall. Apparently when Mattamy does drywall inside garages, they outsource the mudding and taping to long-time CAMH patients. Every time I see it I think “I should do something about this, but that would involve putting down this beer.”
And then I shrug my shoulders and go inside and the thought is gone forever.

The garage doors are mint. Even have some super flammable toxic foam insulation so I can keep this fine body tuned in the colder months by crushing barbell exercises in there.
