Post subject:  Grate in the back yard

Our house was one of the lucky ones to get a grate at the far left back corner.

I am trying to envision what my yard will eventually look like.

Can I still plant along the back fence line?? Will the actuall posts for the fence be on that line? How have others delt with these grates??
I have a side that slopes pretty good...left side of the house. Can we still put flagstone patio down, can I level it off??

Any suggestions

Thanx
Barmaid

Why do you consider it lucky that you have the grate in your backyard, is that not the same as being happy about having a green electrical box on your front lawn?

It's Sarcasm, sometimes not obviously detected. But trust me, she's being sarcastic ;-)

So I am allowed to plant along the back fence?? Won't it interfere with the movement of water to the grate??

I got stuck with one in my backyard as well. We haven't done major backyard renos yet, but when we get to it i plan to plant around it accordingly. As i see it, the grate is there in the event of flood like conditions, not really for rain run off. So as long as you don;t cover it, or build a garden up too high around it so water can;t get to it, you should be ok. As with anything, use your best discretion and you should be able to make the best of it.

good luck
