Hello All,

I know this topic was discussed previously, however I don't think there was much of a consensus reached.

A few questions:

1) I've heard mixed opinions on the hardness of the water in HV
Is there a need for a water softeners?????
2) If so, how many of you plan on purchasing one???
3) Any recommendation for a dealer???

We have friends who live in Milton and they claim that they're water is hard. I guess it depends on what you're used to. We are planning on purchasing a water softener. So far the only place I've looked into was with OZ. I thought it might be convenient to get the softener through them and only pay one bill every month. I have not however compared prices or models. If anyone has better ideas, I'd love to hear them.

OK here is the deal.

Our Water in HV is indeed considered moderately hard.
I spoke with Gord Devine who is the Manager of Water Plant Operations
Planning and Public Works Department Region of Halton.

I quote Gord
"The hardness of the municipal water in your area is 131 mg/L is considered to be moderately hard. In comparison the hardness of the water in the area supplied by municipal wells is 314 mg/L. A softener would certainly help to reduce scale build-up and would make washing easier."

My research indicates anything above 121 mg/L a softener would definitely be beneficial. So I guess it's a personal choice.

Has anybody tasted the water in H/V? I have and it taste like crap!!!! When we move in we will be going for bottled water.
A friend of mine has lived there for over a year and the water is terrible,not sure if it's the new development or will allways taste so bad.
One reason we are not getting double fridge and cold water line put in.

My double door fridge with the water line filters all the water that runs through it and feeds the icecube maker. No complaints to the taste of the water.

Water in Bristol Park appears to be soft. I haven't had any really big problems with mineral deposits.

Two years in and also have not noticed a difference relative to the Bloor West Village area of Toronto where we lived the previous six years. If anything it's better tasting in Milton.

We use a Brita in the fridge if that counts for anything.

Our friends live in a new development (builder is Tiffany) closer to the 401. They claim their water is hard and tastes funny - they installed a water softener a couple of months ago and love it! I guess it's all personal taste.
