It has happened a few times to us as well. Usually if you turn both the tv, and cable box off the picture comes back. HDMI can be finicky, if you lose the connection you need to reset both of the devices that are connected.

Are you using the box with a DVI port on the back and adapting it to HDMI?

HDMI can be finicky if all HDMI devices are not the same version. 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3a can have differences. HDCP is also another issue.

Why are you using 2 HDMI cables? One for the display and the other for the DVD player?
