These changes include: -Weekly collection of GreenCart (new program) -Weekly collection of Blue Box (currently every other week) with new acceptable materials -Collection of garbage every other week with a 6 bag limit (currently weekly with a 6 bag limit) These programs will start in April 2008. |

the 2-week garbage pickup cycle is to encourage the use of the green cart. the 6 bag limit seems high but i suspect that it will be reduce over time. i belive the city of vaughan has the green cart and they collect garbage every 2 weeks with a 2 bag limit! |

Well, I can only speak for myself, but each week I have between 0-1 regular garbage bags, but every recyling day I have 4 blue bins full to bursting. That could perhaps be the vast quantities of takeout we eat, but still, we'll probably benefit from it. Can the green box take kitty litter and kitty poop? If so I might be down to a bag a month. |

I'm all for the changes...the garbage every other week surprised me at first but when I thought about it there shouldn't be that much smelly garbage with the green bins in place. I'm definately for the blue bins every week as we always are over capacity by the time recycle day roles around. |

Ok, I may be missing it, but why no dead animals in the green bin? Not that I have any to put in, and if my cat passed away I believe I'd treat her corpse with a bit more respect, but really... what's the difference between say, a dead squirrel/bird, and the leftover turkey carcass from last night's dinner? Wouldn't they both be equally organic and decomposable? (Although you would DEFINATELY not want to leave that in your garage for a week!) |

Mississauga just went down to a two bag limit at the beginning of October. We put out on average 3 - 4 blue bins of recyclables and a full green bin. We are easily meeting the 2 bag limit with this. We are a family of five, AND my wife runs an at home daycare. If you make the effort to recycle it quickly becomes second nature and is really easy. |

From what I remember poop of any sort was not supposed to be in the green bin, along with dead animals Let's get that straight shall we? NO DEAD ANIMALS IN THE GREEN BIN! (I suppose this was a problem somewhere at some point When they get it rolled out there should be a booklet that covers what is and isn't allowed. Anthony Uh Anthony it isn't that simple... meat, and bone can go in, they are dead animals. |

http://www.halton.ca/ppw/waste/greencart/items.htm Now I'm a bit confused about why pet fur and feathers can't go in. Cat litter is out, although if you use the PC Green brand, or the "old news" brand they are both biodegradable, but they are still not allowed in. |

that's too bad... Toronto green bins (and Hamilton) take diapers and litter: http://www.toronto.ca/greenbin/card.htm halton waste is so far behind on it's diversion program because they've had the luxury of having their own landfill (they admitted as much in the Toronto star article a while back)... but now that it's filling up, they are implementing new diversion programs. a little forethought would be nice |

We have at least 4 recycling bins overflowing every 2nd week, not the problem though, What am I supposed to do with my babies poopy diapers? Geesh, I do daycare and have 2 more stinkers besides my own...It stinks enough after one week, I am gaging at the thought of loner. Oh and I cant forget the dog poop. Think my neighbours would mind if I leave it in the back yard, lol. |

The most logical reason, beyond bessie, is that it is to protect the waste guys from animal born diseases, that you don't typically have in your turkey carcase. |
