Post subject:  Smoke Detectors

Posted this on Milton Mom's in response to a question. Thought I would also share the info here.

(Hubby is with a fire department)
*vacuum smoke detectors regularly - at least monthly
*change furnace filter. The dust in your furnace (esp. from the summer) can cause detectors to "chirp"
*if your detectors are more than six years old, replace them all
*consider having one battery back up detector outside of the sleeping area. Change the batteries every time you change your clocks. (Hard wired detectors will not work in a power outage).
*Most of all DO NOT unplug your detectors!!

October is fire safety month.

Thanks for posting this, I don't think we can be reminded enough to take some simple precautions that could save your life.
