Hi d.del

Toletzka Landing refers to Mr. E. Toletzka who was a veteran of World War Two who served from the Milton area. You can find his listing on page 129 of Milton Remember WWII a book by the Milton Historial Society which you can buy at the Waldie Blacksmith Shop on weekends or view at the Milton Library.

The majority of streets in your area are named after veterans, local citizens and councillors many of which I served with.

I could not find any Toletzka's listed in the phone book, but you can check with the local Legion branch on Charles St. downtown if you want to find out more about him.

I did not know him personally but have known many of the veterans and their families who submitted their names for consideration for street, park and facility names and know they would be honoured to have a street dedicated to their service to the community and country.

thank you colin!

however, i noticed you spelled the name toletzka, where as our street name is spelled toletza.

i know my neighbours will probably hate me for this, but, shouldn't there be a correction in spelling?

it's wonderful to honour our town heros and contributors and i'm sure it would be best if the proper spelling was used.

I was soooo disappointed with the street name I got. I griped for months!

I love unusual names and quite like some of the street names in Milton, but what did I get stuck with, McJannett Ave. Why couldn't I live on Minchin Way. I loooove Minchin Way! I didn't even get a 'way', 'court', or even a 'crescent', I got an 'avenue'...how plain!!

I just read that report that Colin posted.. I'd love to know the history behind the name "Cheese Factory". I think I'd probably get fat if I lived on Cheese Factory Drive hahah

Hi Mels and other posters.

Sorry for the delay.

Whewell Trail is named after Councillor Harold Whewell who was a local councillor from 1946 t0 1953. You can possibly see his photo on the council photo wall on the second floor of the Town Hall opposite the entrance to the council chambers along with photos of most of the councils from the 1890s to 2006. The photos of Mayors and other significant photos of the Town are in the committee room on the second floor along with the halls of Town hall.

Woodley Cr. is named after the Woodley family who have been active for a long time in a number of community groups.

Cahoun Terrace is named after Mr. V. Cahoun a World Ward Two veteran.

Bolingbroke Drive is named Mr. F. Bolingbroke another WW2 veteran.

Dice Way is named Mayor Samuel Dice who was Mayor from 1889-93, 1897-98 and 1902-03 and a local councillor in 1906. This was when council terms were only one year at a time. He was also a local merchant and involved in a number of community and church groups.

You can find their names in the Milton Historical Society's book Milton Remembers WW2 written by Ken Lamb on pages 124-129 as well as the memorial at the Evergreen Cemetary on Ontario St. S. opposite E.C. Drury School where another six names were added this year for veterans who passed away since the last Rememberence Day.

ps. still working on the Cheese Factory name.

Hi Rohit97

Rowe Terrace is named after Ransom Rowe a Town reeve in 1858 and councillor in 1859 one of Milton's earliest politicians as the Town was incorporated in 1857. You can find some information on him and other street and facility names in the booklet Town of Milton Celebrating our Municipal History 1857 to 2007 by the Milton Historical Society to celebrate Milton's 150th anniversary.

The booklet lists all the Mayors, Councillors and Council's over the past 150 years as well as photos of all the Mayors.
