As far as we know, a firewall break is where the builder stops building homes. It's a gap between home construction (or at least framing) so that if there was a fire then the builder doesn't lose a whole long row of homes under construction. Does that makes sense?
THis is what hubby told me anyway!

We would also welcome a short delay as moving in April/May would be easier and nicer. It would be more fun than February.

Let us know if you are delayed JustaGirl.

I heard back from Amanda Ayles on whether or not we should expect a delay notice.

She said ......"Drum roll here..........." NO. So there we go. No delay in the foreseeable future for Lot 184 even though our neighbour has been delayed. She said the delays are due to the land development process. The closing delays are on SOME homes within the Vista community. Not all homes in the community have been delayed.

She also mentioned, that at the time we purchased our home it was designated as a firebreak, however in light of the recent delays, Mattamy has done a re-alignment of closings for the community and a home that may have been designated as a firebreak at the time of sale, may no longer be a firebreak as a result of these changes.

So far, I find Amanda always replies to our queries promptly and always provides a thorough and detailed response. I'm glad we have her as our Customer Care Co-ordinator.

We were at the site yesterday evening and it looks like they are busy digging and leveling the area. There were some street lights put up on Wettlaufer. There's one street light to every few homes.

Thanks for the that information Milton Martian.

Well we got our response back from Amanda- I emailed her last night and she promptly responded today that we are NOT being delayed. I'm thrilled to be honest however like Milo mentioned I don't want for us to sell our home this summer and then find out a month or so before closing that we are going to be delayed. If worse comes to worse I know that we can stay at my sister's place in Mississauga BUT to have the 4 of us living in a couple bedrooms will be rough. Anyway for now I will continue to think positively and hope for the best.

Thanks milton_martian for the maps- pretty cool to see how everything will pan out eventually.

Milo-- I guess I should say i'm sorry that you weren't delayed huh? ;) I really hope things work out the way you want and that you don't get delayed down the road....

Satmatrix- that's interesting to hear about the fact that you are no longer a firebreak. I really suspect that is the same case with our home....

Justagirl please let us know if you were delayed as well!

Wow... Thanks Milton_martian that must have taken some time to do! I'll have to print that off and file it.

Buttafly77,
I picked up my mail today, we have been delayed to March 23. I am happy with the delay, cause I think moving in spring will be better for us. As long as it doesn't rain  Ummm... and I'm thinking maybe I'm the new designated firebreak home. Is there anyone on Whettlaufer closing later than me?

I spoke to our design consultant last week, and she looked to see if we were being delayed as well. She said, as of right now she doesn't see anything, but she can't guarantee that we won't be delayed. So far, we haven't received any notice in the mail. Only time will tell....

Hey Justagirl,
Congrats on the delay. Now, you can relax and not worry about a mid-winter move. Spring moves are so much nicer and cleaner! Plus, if you are like me, March/April bring extra renewed energy. So far, I think you have the latest closing date.

Personally,
I'm getting upset that we haven't received our "official" notice in the mail. We have financial decisions that hinge upon whether or not we are delayed and I don't want to get burnt going on verbal communication only, we're still waiting for a notice...

We got a reply from Amanda yesterday confirming we are not currently delayed... a bit disappointing as we were hoping to save more $$... oh well, at least we get to move in before christmas!

We are on wettlaufer lot 214 btw.

We've been in a few Aspen (same elevation to ours) where they had certain upgrades that we requested, but were told it isn't possible. I find it very strange that one Aspen, identical to ours has things that aren't possible for us. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Mattamy. I don't like the sounds of Mattamy leaving people with information at the last minute and then expecting them to make immediate decisions about want upgrades they would like. That doesn't sound like good customer service. I hope this isn't the norm.

I think you could post something about your experience and questions about the upgrades that you can't do, yet other Aspen owners have done, in the Aspen model specific threads on this forum.

OMG- We were in fact NOT delayed. Mattamy made a mistake.

Hopefully we'll see you on the street as we made financial decisions based on the new closing date... we may be screwed now.

I had called today because I was uncomfortable with the fact that we didn't have the "official" document yet. And was again told it was mailed out.... Until 30 minutes ago.

My bad I guess

Hi Cookiepaws,

Maybe you should ask to be delayed to the date you made your new plans for, I am sure if you explain what happened they will grant you a delay.

On another note, am I the only one on Wettlaufer that got an official notice? and if so why so late, not that I'm complaining I am happy with the extra time, but that's strange...
