This one takes the cake for the WORST street name ever.

I agree - it's going to be embarrasing when people ask for our address and we have to say Gooch Cres.

Hi Don & Carmen

I would not be embarrassed about the name, rather be proud of it. I knew Mr. Gooch who the street was named after.

He was a WW 1 veteran who lived for many years on Robert St. in Town and was involved in a number of community activities. His family still lives in town and you can find his name on page 179 of Milton Remembers by Jim Dills and John Challinor which you can pick up at local book stores and the Library.

Many of the names for streets in the new areas of Milton are named after veterans of both World Wars and who also contributed greatly to the Milton community such as Gus Goutouski, Gordon Rayner, Emerson Mc Cready, Glenn Stringer, the Kelman brothers, Bill Johnson and others that I am proud to have served on council and community groups with.

Other street and neighbourhood names are from the original farming families in the area such as Scott, Harrison, Ford, Cobban, Beaty and Clark as well as local and national politicians such as Otto Jelinek and Frank Philbrook who were MP's for the Milton area in the 1970s.

If you want more information on local names check the name bank at milton.ca or the cenotaphs in Victoria park, Evergreen cemetary and the hamlet of Brookville.

Thanks Mars

The previous council already did when they thought I was not coming back on council.

There is a Best Road off Caldwell Cr. just south of Derry and east of Armstrong. Its a 100 feet long and has no homes fronting on it.
(shows what they thought of me)

Hi csb101 and Jonzo

No, actually Jack Dennison of Burlington has that honour on Regional Council.

Jonzo, I have asked the planning staff in charge of street names to find out the background for Herman Way. I checked all my sources from council records, historical society books and the 1877 Atlas (all available at the Milton Library) and cannot find the source of the name. I should have it tomorrow.

I did find out where Ockerman Lane came from, it is named after one of the original farming families in the escarpment area from the 1877 Atlas which is a treasure for finding old names and seeing the old farm houses and lots.

Wow... I love how this thread has become about Colin. It was originally about meeting others on Gooch Cres. Maybe someone can stat a thread about Colin? Maybe in the General area? Or if youd like to talk about Best street, you can start an other thread in the "street or phase specific" area, maybe even titled "Colin Best and Best Street"?

I guess Rudy and Kellie are the only ones that understood the original purpose... :? Hi Rudy and Kellie.

And although "Gooch Cres." is a conversation name... If you have nothing good to say, don't say it.

Well said, Don and Carm. Hopefully more of our future neighbours will post a reply and we can get the ball rolling...

Hi Rudy and Kellie,

Have you been by the street lately? Carmen and I were going to drive by this weekend. We went by a few times during the winter after swiming lessons, but managed to see only more snow :( Im hoping there has been some sort of development/change since the last time we were there... even if they aren't breaking ground till March.

Hi Don and Carmen,

I was there about 2 weeks ago and Kellie was there last weekend. The streets are marked, and the lots are staked. It's exciting to see our neighbourhood take shape. I was unable to drive down Gooch due to the snow, but as it melted last week, Kellie was able to drive down the street. We have our first design centre appt on March 11th to go over our structural upgrades!

Rudy & Kelly,

Have fun at your appointment - it is very exciting....however it can be extremely overwhelming if there are options you're debating to get now or later. We had asked our DC consultant if we could combine our 2 appointments since it's hard for us to take time off and we were able to finish everything within 3 hours. Good luck with your structural appointment!
