Just got my house and i am happy to see its finally completed, however i was disappointed that mattamy didnt fix nail holes on the staircase. I wrote it down during PDI and it was not finished on the closing date. THE GUY said its normal to have these holes; and there is nothing they can do about it.

THATs BULLS**T.

After few mins of back and forth, they agreed to bring in painter to refinish the stairs.

my question .. IS this normal ? at my previous place I did not have this problem.

This response is better late then never. Topic really belongs in the General Section.

Here goes,,,,,

No it is not normal to have nail holes or staple holes on a finished hardwood stair but this often happens. During construction pieces of hardboard are stapled to the steps to protect them from damage however, when the house is cleaned up and prepared for the PDI this should be fixed.

The repair is easily done with a bit of matching wood fill and a touch up on the finish work. Unfortunately many Mattamy hardwood steps have small holes from staples in the finish.
