Hi Zeeshan,

What is the latest status on the development of Harrison neighbourhood park? Today it seems they are putting up posts for a temporary fence?

Hello Peter

Halton Health Care has submitted their detailed plans to the Ministry of Health for a multi-stage expansion of the hospital which have been endorsed by the Mississauga-Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN of short) last year.

The Board is waiting for the Ministry to approve the plan which includes an ambulatory care centre as the first phase of the expansion which could be started next year if approval is given soonl.

Check the attached website fore more information.

http://www.haltonhealthcare.com/home.php

I will be posting more information on this and other issues when I hear back from the Ministry.

Local & regional councillor
Milton/Halton
Member of the Friends of Milton Hospital committee

Hi Lou and Leanne

The Oakville Hospital property tax fundraising that is being proposed is for the Town of Oakville only. I am following the activites in all four municipalities through my position as the Vice-Chair of the Region's Health and Social Services Committee. All four Halton hospitals require expansion and are at different stages of development. Oakville Hospital is currently ahead of the Milton expansion according to the Ministry of Health which is why they are funding the design stage now, as the existing Oakville hospital has no room for expansion.

The Oakville hospital which was built for a population of less than 100,000 people now serves over 175,000 with another 50,000 people being added north of Dundas St. in the next 5-10 years.

Halton Health Care which operates the Oakville, Milton and Georgetown hospitals has appliied to the province for funding and is waiting for approval for the Milton and Georgetown hospital expansions.

At present the Town of Milton and the Region has not started any possible tax funding for the municipal share of the hospital funding. The City of Burlington is currently looking at a proposal to fund part of their share of fundraising through a property tax fund for the Joseph Brant Hospital which was last expanded in 1971 when Burlington was less than a 1/3rd of its present 175,000 people.

The last Milton expansion in 1985-1987 was assisted totally by a public fund raising campaign that raised over $ 1.5 million through corporate and community donations which you can see from the plaques and bricks on the hospital walls.

The Friends of Milton Hospital campaign together with the Halton Health Care application is still being reviewed by the Ministry of Health for funding as well as 55 other hospitals that are also hoping to expand in the next 5-10 years.

Will be posting more information when it becomes available.

Colin Best
Local & regional councillor
Milton/Halton
Vice-Chair 1985 MDH Buy and Brick campaign.
