For anyone interested in planning the future of Milton you might want to read the attached reports that will be considered and approved at Monday's special council meeting at the Town Hall council chambers starting at 7.30 pm.

The first major report is the approval of the 2000+ acre Derry Green employment and office area east of James Snow Parkway from Highway #401 south to Louis St. Laurent Blvd. with projected construction to start in the next 1-2 years.

The second major report is the recommended approval of the 50,000+ new resident Boyne Survey south of Louis St. Laurent Blvd. between James Snow Parkway to Tremaine Road with construction projected to start in 2014 after servicing is completed for the area in the next few years.

The third and most important report is the recommended approval of the new Official Plan to conform with the Provincial Places to Grow Act and the new regional Sustainable Halton plan. The new plan makes some major changes in the town plan including the addition of 5,300 homes in the current urban area to meet provincial intensification targets and the addition of 63,000 new residents in the Sustainable Halton area south of Britannia road between 4th and 5th lines and along the Trafalgar road corridor leading to a new GO station at Trafalgar road just south of Highway #401.

The impact of these reports is the approval for the increase of 153,000 new residents for the Milton urban area from the current estimate of 85-90,000 people to 238,000 people in the year 2031.

If you have any concerns or comments on these reports please contact your councillors before the meeting or register to speak at the meeting by calling 905-878-7252 and ask for the Clerks department or register online at www.milton.ca under delegations.

Colin Best
