Looking to sell my Stevey Y rookie card. It's in mint condition. Anybody know what it would go for?

there used to be books with listed prices.... I cant remember what those books were titled, or if they still print them. Trading cards arent what they used to be.... i have boxes and boxes of them... its the only thing I took when I moved out  those and my comics :D I have everything all wrapped up nice and neat....

Naively, im hoping they pay for something in a few years for my son.... schooling, car, wedding...

Wow. $20? I thought Yzerman would be worth a little more than that! Thanks for the info.

The Beckett Guides I just mentioned. It looks like the moved them online now and it's 29.99 a month or something to access the database. What a scam haha. It used to be $4-$6 to buy the monthly magazine or probably like $30 for the year. Cards don't seem to be worth what they used to be!

Ya, cards just don't hold the same value as they did in our era (thirty something catagory). The problem is when the card industry exploded in the late 80's / early 90's the cards we were collecting as kids (O Pee Chee, Upper Deck, Parkhusrt and dare I say Pro Set) were so mass produced. On top of that every kid was collecting them thinking they would be worth something in the future. Back in our father's time they used to use cards to make motorcycle sounds with their bikes or whipped them around bending all the corners so when you have a mint condition card from back then its worth something, although not as much as back in the late 80's / early 90's. Compond that with the fact that your grandmother probably threw out your father's cards thinking they were junk, this contributes to the rarity of cards from that era, the less there are of them out there the more valuable. Now a days everyone has a Yzerman or Lindros or Hasek rookie card lying around in their basement.

I say just hold onto the cards, who knows, maybe when we're all in our eighties they'll be another card boom.

Mass produced is right. I still have unopened boxes... maybe even cases of Pro Set. I remember at one point they had an entire skid of those cars at the dollar store at Dixie Value Mall in the 90's. It was $6 for a whole case. It used to be almost that much for a single pack of Upper Deck or Fleer Ultra's. And then the number of cards per pack went from something like 15... to 12... to 8... :P I still have all those mini-opee chee cards, I think there were some 'fake' rookie cars in there like Brett Hull and stuff. I remember Esso used to have sets you could get as well with a booklet to collect them in. And don't forge the Panini NHL sticker books!

WOW! Mike, Panini sticker albums! What a great memory. I have far greater memories of trading those damn stickers with my brother, cousin and friends than I ever did with cards. It wasn't about the value of the cards (or stickers) back then. It was laughing about how funny Harold Sneps mustache looked or needing that one last sticker to complete the entire book. Do you remember you could order the stickers you were missing directly from Panini. I only ever did it once but I remember waiting in agony for those last three stickers to come in the mail. Good times!

Hahaha... my friends used to have a running joke about Harold Snepes Rookie cards, who'd he play for, Winnipeg? LOL. And yeah, I was gonna mention that when you talked about trading the stickers. You could mail in for the ones you were missing, but I think there were restrictions like you could only get up to 6 or something along those lines. And I always wanted the shiny ones (or foil stickers) as we called them with team logos or the trophies. And then there were the Cup Final Pages with the 4 stickers to make one picture. I'm sure I probably have some of those books sitting in the basement somewhere! Those were great... they were about fun, not collecting them for value. Although we loved trying to open packs for the valueable rookies too. :)

Edit - Snepsts was Vancouver... now I"m trying to remember what freakshow played for the Jets that we used to make fun of.
