Ok, so Hedo is gone and Bosh left with 7 years of mediocre results.

The Raptors are young, fast, athletic and have a lot to prove. Will they make the playoffs this year or is Calderon's replacement with an AllStar caliber player a must?

Colangelo isn't done yet so I'm going to have to hold off voting for the time being. I'd like to see a similar Calderon deal happen again before the season begins. Question is, can this team win by committee or do we need a bonafide superstar to lead the team?

I agree, so we'll have to see what he does, especially with the trade exeption he has to play with. Overall though, I am optimistic about this team's future, though I'd be more so if the Raps do not make the playoffs and can hopefully get a top pick in the 2011 draft.

I think in the NBA, you need at least one superstar to contend and may need two all stars for a shot at the title. Right now, the Raptors have none, so we really need Bargnani to justify the #1 overall selection, and hopefully DeRozan and Davis can develop into gems.

I think anything can happen over the course of an NBA season. The Raptors themselves showed they can be in it until the end. That's one reason I am optimistic.

The other is that anything can happen- LeBron can demand a trade because he isn't getting enough playing time. Cleveland can be good enough without James to take the East. Miami could be crap, even with the infusion of star talent. The Nets and Wince (Vince) Carter could end up taking it all even.

What has bugged me about Bargnani this past season is he's 7 feet, and at times he seemed almost afraid to go inside. A seven footer with a killer three point shot is good- a seven footer with a killer three pointer, and an inside game is better- and a lot harder to defend against.

I hate to say it, but you were quite far off with your thoughts on Bosh, and I think you're equally far off with your comments above :)
Anything can happen, indeed... BUT

Lebron demanding a trade this year due to playing time? LOL who's going to play in his place? SuperNintendo Chalmers?

Cleveland taking the East? not a chance at all. They won't be good enough. They MIGHT be ANGRY enough to win some games, but can that last all season?

Miami ending up "crap"? That's not even a remote possibility.

The Nets won't win anything, unless you meant "Orlando" :)

Bargs needs to be coached properly. He's a FORCE out there when he's motivated and grabbing boards, which unfortunately we saw only about 1 every 10 games. He's got an inside game, although it's a finesse game as he's got great ball control and soft hands - I don't think we need him to try anything 'power'-based - it's all position based, and he has to be coached / reminded. Let's see what impact PJ has on him, if any.

Of course, these are all just opinions, as I don't know squat (nor should I claim to :) )... I just needed to reply to your post. I left the Bosh one alone since I liked your optimism, but this one, I couldn't :)

Fred D: My main point with my previous post is that anything can happen. If Miami can get James, Wade, and Bosh- then it's obvious who the power in the east is- if all three stay healthy and are surrounded with decent players.

My point about Miami being crap- I just meant that sometimes uniting superstars doesn't work the way you'd expect. Vince Carter, when he first went to the Nets- the Nets were expected to be a serious contender; they had Marbury and Carter.

I like your crazy out there ideas. That kevin garnett "anything is possible" attitude is good for politics. Not as good with the sports bookies though :)

As long as you promise not to vote on council to invest tax dollars into proline tickets, all will be well! Hehe

Actually, they had Jason Kidd, but I get what you're saying. Oh, and they had all-star Richard Jefferson too.

I promise I won't do that Fred D :)

I know it doesn't work for sports- that's why I never bet on them.
