I'm guessing on the All-Star Break. |

I still don't understand why. I don't think it's a lack of coaching ability. It comes down to one thing.....this team sucks. You probably can get some OHL teams that can beat the Leafs. The only coaching problem I can see is if the whole team tunes out the coach. But then again with respect to that, it tells you a lot about the players as well. I think nowadays it's hard for a coach of any professional sport to coach effectively. It's all about the players themselves now. However, I do understand it's a business and it's about optics and to tame the uneducated Leaf fan, the coach will be the first to go. |

It's not about the "uneducated Leaf fan", it's about the impossibilty of firing an entire team. Burke has made some collosal mistakes and inherited some issues. Burke won't get canned before Wilson. That's just the way it is. Firing "the team" also means that Burke has to admist he made a mistake in his signings. Again, never going to happen. For whatever reason, Wilson can't get this group of players to buy-into, and commit, to his program. They're inconsistant, pitiful some nights and play like the TimBit kids some periods. Yes, that's a player issue, but the coach is supposed to deal with, correct and improve player issues. Wilson can't do the job. I don't think Burke can get it done either, to be honest. That may be more related to Ownership, but I'm not certain. |

I agree with you for the most part but at the same time, any coach they bring in isn't going to change a thing, at least in my opinion. |

I agree on that too. It's only a step, but it's the only one they can take right now. Unless they sit, do nothing, and don't re-sign half the roster. |

Yeah. I assume then it'll be Ron's head next. Then finish 30th again and watch the number one pick go to Boston again. Shitty. |

There's definitely some nepotism since Burke and Wilson go back a long way, but it's true that the team just plain sucks, and it's a good bet that no coach can help significantly if they just can't score. Effort can be good some nights, but it doesn't always translate to wins. That said though, Wilson is a tough, demanding guy, and who knows if that's a fit with the young players here. For example, he kept criticizing Nazem Kadri in the media. At some point, he'll probably have to go, but Burkie would probably spin it as a mutually understood decision so the team gets a new voice. I feel bad for Wilson. I think he is a good coach based on his track record, but maybe he's just not a good fit with this team. We need some serious scoring punch and a better Defense (I think Komisarek and Beauchemin have been disasters). as for building through the draft, we'll see how Kadri does, but not since Wendel Clark has a first round pick panned out here. I just think it's so hard for young stars to develop here because of the losing culture, the pressure and the nit-picking, fishbowl media that could make mincemeat out of potential rising stars. |

I don't know what it is with the Leafs, but every time they draft high, they get rid of them pretty quick. They don't let the players develop and then trade them before any potential is either reached or seen. Brad Boyes. Traded for Nolan. Rask. Traded for Raycroft. Raycroft?! Antropov? Only time will tell if this was a good trade. Damphousse. Helped Montreal win the cup in 93. The Leafs just can't seem to do well in drafts. I don't know what there strategy is, but it isn't working and it hasn't been for a long time. Could have gotten Luongo in 97. Nobody seems to play well in Toronto. NOBODY! This city has a lot of bad luck. Anyone heard of Kessel, Phaneuf, or Nolan. |

Any time now. They've done the traditional "his job is safe," routine. That is usually followed by the "fired" routine isn't it? |
