About Ringette
Ringette is a Canadian sport that was invented in 1963 in North Bay, Ontario by the late Sam Jacks. There are currently over 29,000 players on more than 2,000 teams across Canada with over 2,400 officials and 5,000 coaches. Internationally, Ringette is played in half a dozen other countries around the world. Ringette has been designated a Heritage Sport by Sport Canada and as part of the Sport for Life movement, Ringette is well advanced at adapting Sport Canada's Long Term Athlete Development model. The Ringette philosophy is to provide "a mass participation team sport which encourages the physical, mental, social and moral development of individual participants within the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, personal excellence, and enjoyment."
*For more information please refer to the Ringette Canada Web site at http://www.ringette.ca.

I have to say, my kids went to one of these free sessions when they were 7 yrs and 4 yrs and LOVED IT!!! They started playing ringette that season, and we haven't looked back. Both kids had been in the city run "learn to skate" programs, but it was simply amazing how fast they started skating with SKILL. My oldest daughter (now 11) can probably outskate my husband (who plays hockey and skates pretty well himself). Not only that, but they LOVE the game of ringette and have a second set of friends outside of school.

Also, ringette is less expensive in comparison to learn to skate programs, given the amount of ice time you get, and downright CHEAP in comparison to hockey. I would encourage anyone to try. While ringette is primarily a sport for girls and women, boys are welcome up to around age 8 or so.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

My kids went to this FREE event 5 years ago and loved it!! You should see them skate now!!! I would seriously recommend this to parents looking for an economical way to keep their kids active, build confidence and learn to skate at the same time. Plus, my kids have a whole other set of BEST FRIENDS!!
