personally, I think think the hardwood would look better running the other way. If you run it from the front to back you will get a long bowling alley look. I think runnig it the other way will look better. In Our last Mattamy home we ran the harwood the otherway and it looked great. When I get home I'll see if I have some photo's of it I can post.

I agree with justagirl, better to have them running crossways versus the bowling alley hallway look from the front door. And don't forget, many of your daily views will be from inside the house and from a different perspective, i.e. coming downstairs every morning where the hardwood flowing away will make your dining room seem bigger, sitting at the kitchen island and seeing the flow into your great room, etc.
