Looking to see if anyone else has encountered this problem...

We have our stairs stained by Mattamy, since we are closing soon, we are starting to search for hardwood. Didn't realize how difficult it was to find a match and how to find a reasonable similar colour with the brands that Mattamy has.

Can anyone share any ideas or solutions as to how you guys handled this?

Our design consultant (in 2009) allowed us to take a sample out to be returned the same day. Alternatively, if you see something you like and think is a good match, you can take a sample from the hardwood company to the design centre to make sure.
