What is with all the spam on this board? The board doesn't really get much traffic and there is really no reason for that considering how much traffic the main board gets. I think it is because anytime anyone comes here, they are looking at primarily advertising. I am always seeing people posting ads for real estate, insurance, mortgages, and now SEO services (among others). These posters will post ads promoting themselves without ever offering ANY value to the readers of the board.

Rick, please look into monitoring this board and deleting anything that can be interpreted as spam. I have been guilty of posting mortgage rates on here myself, but I always try to balance that out with other posts that the readers of the board may find helpful.

The spam has nothing to do with this board. 2 other boards I'm a part of all got spammed by the same spamming software all last night.

I'm not just talking about spamming software posts. There are other posts that appear on here regularly by local 'professionals' that never offer up anything of value other than promotions for their own businesses. I am all for self promotion, but when their posts are 100% self promoting without ever posting anything else of value is where I have the issue. Take look at all the posts below and see just how many of them are advertising. I think there are some people that probably come here to post legitimate questions, but refrain from doing so when they see the board is filled with nothing but advertising.

There's no problem in that - there are no rules stating that business either need to be sponsoring businesses of the site or contributing members. If there were such rules, yes they would be in violation of them. Those other posts, I wouldn't say are "spam". They are for legitimate businesses in and around the area.

I don't think the point of refraining from asking questions because of advertising posts is true. I've never once cared about who posted what. If I have a question, I ask it. I think that's the case for most people.

Not sure what has you seemingly highly upset by those posts, don't know if one of those posts ending up taking some business from you or something, but there is a legitimate advertising section, with the rules fairly lax. This section should be the discussion of mortgages / legal / finance, but that line gets blurred.

Its a free board, no sponsorship or buying banners to advertise your mtg goods, i wouldnt complain,

I just think the board should be more about offering value to the readers and less about self promotion. Just a thought and kind of surprised you guys don't agree with me. If anyone were to post anything even slightly resembling a self-promotion on the main board, than the readers I am sure would come down on them hard. I've seen it. So what makes this board any different? There is a special board for advertising. That's my point.

It's when people try to promote something as if it's a referral - that's when others come down on them hard. When it's just a blatant advertisement, I don't think you see that problem. Posting what rates you can offer weekly or monthly is not nearly the same thing.

I think you might be reading too much into it. Ultimately, it's the owners (Rick's) prerogative. It seems fine for him, so that's all the really matters...

I agree it is ultimately Rick's decision. It is not that I am 'really bothered' by it as you stated earlier. I just think there could be much more value brought to this board. It's traffic level seems to be fairly weak considering how many regulars there are on the main board. Just wondering if it could be made better, thats all.

If its any consolation Paul, out of all the mtg agents here, you seem the most honest and down to earth, this is just by reading your threads,
The others come off as slime balls.
Disguised threads where folks pretend to be a happy client can easily be exposed, im sure youve seen that, and they go away,
Im sure this board is not your bread and butter anyways,
Keep doing what your doing.

I hate all the ads on the forums too, the main reason I stopped posting or going to the Health & Wellness section it's all people selling services. I would be more then happy to clean out all the ads that aren't in the Ads section.
