The GST rebate is not credited or adjusted for by your Lawyer.
You can ask your lawyer for a copy of the form that you need to fill in, and then you will be responsible for sumbitting it after closing.

Since the form/program is new, I wouldn't expect to see that money too soon after you send it in.

If you signed prior to May 2 and closed after July 1 then you need to send in the attached form to receive your transitional GST rebate. There are papers your will need to copy from your closing to send with the form. Remember this is the Canada Revenue Agency and I would not expect anything for at least 6 - 8 weeks.

Anyone who purchased after May 2, will already have the GST adjusted in the purchase price and is not entitled to a rebate.

Thanks for the info guys, I was just getting ready to post the same queston :D I purchased before May 2 and don't close until Sept. 2007. So in the meantime, should GST drop again to the 5% rate that the Harper gov't promised (big IF probably but it doesn't hurt to dream right?), then I guess I would be able to claim an even bigger rebate. On the other hand, if Harper decides (God forbid) to bring the GST back up again in a year, I guess I'm SOL

I have had clients who have sumbitted their forms in August.. that have now received their credit back.
The website now has more information and examples on how to fill out the forms.
Pretty simple to fill out, but you do need a copy of the GST rebate in order to complete.

Pitapoda,

I bought on May 22nd and I was told that I was also getting the GST rebate (ie. I paid 7% GST instead of 6% for the house). The homes were released earlier than the 22nd when I purchased and the prices did not reflect a drop in GST. Does that mean that Mattamy just absorbed the 1% rebate? Are people that purchased after May 2nd but before July 1st losing out on the rebate? Can anyone clarify that for me?

To add to my earlier post. . . I was reading over my contract and it says that I was charged 7% GST. I guess that Mattamy has to reimburse all of the people that bought between May 3rd and June 30th. Anybody dealt with this type of situation yet? We might be one of the first since nobody in 15a has closed yet and we close early April.
