When installing pot lights (let's say in the dining room) if the electrician feeds the wires to the pot lights from the main centre light, does this mean when I turn on the pot lights, the centre light will turn on as well?

Yes.

What would I need to do in order to have the centre light and pot lights to turn on separately? Would the electrician have to install another electrical box, switch?

You need a separate switch. I'm not an electrician but I believe if you've got a neutral wire in your circuit the electrician can install a double-switch within the single-gang box which would effectively give you two switches using the same wiring. Or you could just have him run a completely separate switch + wiring. Your worst case scenario here would be a bit of drywall patching (likely no bigger than a playing card).

Or is it better to have Mattamy install one pot light and switch so then I can have more pot lights installed after closing?

You can do that. At that point finishing becomes a DIY project - it's fairly simple to pop in some extra potlights. The hard part is fishing wiring from your one potlight to where you want the others (and that's not even that hard)...

If anyone is looking for potlights, call Curtis Behnke 905-630-7305 curtis.behnke@gmail.com

We just had 11 outside potlights installed & he's much cheaper than Mr. Potlight!

Unfortunately Curtis seems to be MIA. I used him and recommended him alot. Now no one seems to be able to get a hold of him.

Do a search on this site for Electrician 4 u - his name is George - very reasonably priced and prompt.
