Job Summary
This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of all preventative and reactive maintenance programs on facility equipment to ensure that all equipment is operating at the highest possible levels of safety and efficiency. This position is also responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of physical buildings and outdoor grounds.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures reactive and preventative maintenance on all facility equipment (conveyors, powered and manual material handling equipment, HVAC system, electrical systems, fire protection systems, etc.) is carried out in an appropriate manner to ensure the continuity, safety, and efficiency of operations.
Ensures the purchase and availability of replacement parts and the effective management of the Spare Parts Inventory Store to minimize costs and ensure adequate supply of parts for ongoing operations.
Reviews and audits current budget expenditures and parts suppliers for cost-savings or efficiency opportunities.
Ensures the inspection of all facility equipment is undertaken on a regular basis.
Works within all Provincial Ministry guidelines..
Develops and maintains a process for managing work order requests from internal customers to ensure that all maintenance and repairs are logged and resolved in a timely manner.
Develops and documents sound reactive and preventative maintenance procedures, and ensures all personnel are trained in their safe and proper execution
Ensures the exterior grounds are maintained and that the plant housekeeping, custodial, and repair tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Involved in outside service contract negotiations. Overseas the work of selected outside contractors on installation and/or maintenance assignments.
In consultation with the Operations Manager, audits the integrity of current facility equipment, including evaluating and recommending new equipment or equipment enhancements to support the business operations.
Hires, trains, and evaluates Maintenance team members, providing coaching, support and development in all functional service areas.
Position Requirements
A University or College degree or diploma in Electrical and or Mechanical engineering, or an electrician or millwright license.
Senior experience in a Maintenance Management role preferably within a distribution/warehousing or manufacturing environment.
Strong mechanical, electrical, and controls (Allen-Bradley PLC’s) aptitude with an ability to trouble-shoot and solve technical problems
Project management skills including needs analysis, information gathering, research, analysis, and reporting skills, preparing and maintaining detailed project plans
Acts in accordance with SCM’s Leadership Core Competencies.
Managerial skills including selection, coaching, and counselling team members, evaluating performance, team building, and administration and operational planning including budgeting and resource allocation
Good knowledge of Health and Safety including Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations for Industrial Establishments, building code, electrical code, and other applicable codes
Time management skills including an ability to work in a fast paced environment, multi-task, mange multiple projects, and meet deadlines under pressure (i.e. ensuring all maintenance and repairs logged and resolved in a timely manner).
Communication skills including (verbal, written, facilitation) including an ability to interact with all levels of the organization
Computer skills (word processing; spreadsheets, and email; knowledge of mainframe applications (maintenance work order program).
Working Environment
Works within deadlines that are competing and unpredictable. Must handle frequent interruptions and requests for immediate service from internal customers.
Must adhere to manufacturer guidelines covering the safe and proper guidelines.
Works in a plant under conditions of moderate risk of injury – regularly exposed to noise and equipment.
Frequent interruptions, with regular work schedule
Often required to field inquiries/complaints from departments and from external suppliers in a courteous and professional manner.
May be required to work flexible and/or extended hours in order to address business needs.
