Post subject:  Does anyone install Remote Car Starters???

Hey Everyone!

Was thinking of purchasing one for my hubby this year, but wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations of where to get one installed once purchased? Is there anyone in the Village that has experience with this sort of thing?

I also wanted to get an idea on the price, to factor that in to the decision of purchasing one.

I'd be interested to know a price and place to get a MANUAL TRANSMISSION starter installed (Standard), but would be interested too if there is a difference in price for an automatic.

Thanks in Advance!

Laurie

What car do you guys have and what year? I've done them before, but there are certain cars (i.e. German cars and GMs) I won't touch due to complexities and/or other extraneous electronic features.

Otherwise, I can refer you to a contact I know of in Richmond Hill who will install a CompuStar unit with FREE keyless entry for $185 taxes in (for cars with power locks only obviously), and has a 2000 feet range plus lifetime warranty. I think the only item that is extra if needed (depends on year and make of car) will be something called a bypass module. This is a legit and well-known shop.

I received one as a gift from a friend 2 years ago. Cdn tire had them on sale and it fit within our gift budget parameters. Problem was installation was 200 bucks plus a harness to bypass my security system in my Explorer. My key sends a signal to a control unit and it will not start without it.

Make sure you research properly and thouroughly. I ended up getting it returned for a gift certificate.

Perfect Tones in Milton would do my 2006 tribute for $300 after taxes. So would Best Buy. That's for the basic model of car starter. I'm going to Best Buy cause they'll most likely be around for a long time and tend to have no hassle quarantees, etc if I have any problems.
