Post subject:  Place for an oil change
Hey everyone,

I am looking for a place to take my car in for oil changes.
My old place isn't that convenient anymore now that I am living in Milton.
Do you know of any place that are open in the evenings?

Pro oil changers at main/thompson is good, or oil changers at main/bronte, those are both lube shops.

That's a cool 180-hp car; I have a Nissan too.

If you can't find a shop in time, I can do it for you, and show you in the process how to do it. I personally don't like bringing it to shops because they never let the oil drain long enough, and some careless joes can over-tighten the drain plug and strip the oil pan threads, or not replace the drain plug gasket, which then may cause leaks.

If you can't find a shop in time, I can do it for you, and show you in the process how to do it. I personally don't like bringing it to shops because they never let the oil drain long enough, and some careless joes can over-tighten the drain plug and strip the oil pan threads, or not replace the drain plug gasket, which then may cause leaks.


Nothing beats having it raised on a lift though where any ball joint or tire rod end problems can be found obviously by removing the weight of the car off the tires. Also is good to add some oil to flush it out when before the oil plug is replaced.
Also make sure you lubricate any moving parts with grease nipples. Hard to do in your garage....

Point taken, but the front end has to be jacked up, meaning the wheels get off the ground to check for ball joints and tie rods, both of which I always do, in addition to checking belts, hoses, air filter, and CV boots.

I just don't like shops, but it's a personal choice of course, since in some cases, it's cheaper to change oil at a shop than buy the materials yourself. I've seen guys just go to town tightening drain plugs, which strip threads and necessites the replacement of an oil pan.

Jacking up is good, I use ramps for my Exploder I mean explorer. Every 3rd Oil Change I go to the dealership to get it raised.
I am ticked off though! Just did an oil change Saturday morning and the grease nipple off my U Joint is missing, I think the last garage I went to snapped it off!!! i am furious! good luck trying to get anything out of them though, more money out of my pocket!

Yeah man, what happened to your nipple is an example of what I mean about the rampant carelessness in shops. They can screw up the simplest things like in your case, or overfilling oil to the point it leaks out of crank seals, or overtightening a drain bolt that kills an oil pan. Not all places are bad, but definitely go to someone you trust, or better yet, DIY.

Buy your own grease gun and do it, Matthew. It's an SUV; you don't need a jack to get under it. :)

You haven't seen me, I am not as small as I used to be! LOL

I just bought my grease gun and that is how I found the nipple off! I am hoping I can still get the grease in it somehow...

I won't trust another shop in doing my oil change.
They always screw something up!
I get the b/f to do it! Much cheaper and I know I can get him to fix anything that goes wrong without hesitation! lol

If you are stuck I can coach you through one and even supply you with inexpensive OEM filters (stay away from Fram!!)
It's pretty easy and quick. All you do is drive around the corner to McEwan. :wink:
I've been doing all of my own work for over 15 years now and like to show people how easy it is to do their own work with few simple tools. :)
