The building code for insulation to the exterior walls is R20. Mattamy is using R17. Why is this?

Not that I would know the difference between R20 and Rwhatever, but do you really think that a Builder of Mattamys size would build entire neighborhoods below code?

I'm sure you can find what you're looking for by visiting any Mattamy building site.

We've been watching HGTV - Homes on Homes http://www.holmesonhomes.com/ and are probably going to put the spray foam in the garage.

The company is Insta Insulation http://www.instainsulation.com/

We want our home done right...now, just have to see if Mattamy will allow this type of insulation to be done.

COLD FEET
Henry & Mandy purchased a new home and submitted several complaints to the builder about various insufficiencies, most of which weren’t addressed. After 2 years the warranty expired, they were left with several issues unaddressed, the most alarming of which being the bedroom above the garage that Mandy's mother-in-law was using. It was cold and uncomfortable for her to stay in for any amount of time. Mike and his crew were called in to investigate the situation, and found a building code loophole allowing wafer board in place of vapour barrier between the cold zone in the garage and the bedroom floor above. They quickly tore down the garage ceiling, and using a combination of spray-foam and R20 insulation, sealed the area back in creating a very comfortable bedroom for all seasons.

Look for this in the episodes should be the 3rd one down.

Tim
