I sent our design consultant an email regarding Canac going out of business.

WE picked the following for our kitchen SIGNATURE 4 cabinets , expresso oak with mission style doors. With crown molding above and flush valence below. IF THIS EXACT COLOUR AND DOOR TYPE and equivelant level of upgrade is not available from the new supplier WE ASK THAT WE BE ABLE TO RESELECT THE FOLLOWING:

CABINET TYPE AND UPGRADE LEVEL
DOOR TYPE
COUNTER TOP
BACKSPLASH
FLOOR TILE
HARDWARE STYLE
TYPE OF VALENCE
TYPE OF CROWN MOLDING

All these items go hand in hand and one cant just change the types of cabinets without having to reselect everything around them to match.

Waiting for a reply from both Paola and Tiffany regarding this email.

I just read the article in the Star and it said that the Thornhill plant is closing and moving to the US. My DC consultant once mentioned that Canac will be e operating from the US. Maybe this doesn't mean that Canac will no longer be the supplier...who knows. I'm going to wait and see what Mattamy says.

Hi all in this thread,

I sent a message to my DC Colette and her response was the following.

"We are working with Canac through this transition. You will still be selecting from the Canac cabinets unless we have found a suitable replacement by your scheduled appointment next week. However, the supplier will change as a result of Canac’s situation. We are presently working on finding comparable cabinets.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately this is beyond our control and we are doing our best to find a suitable replacement"

I am doing my upgrade selection on Tuesday Sept 30th.

I agree. I guess I will find out on Tuesday. I am going to ask her that question as well. Thanks.

I heard back from Tiffany today and if they can't provide the same finish and style as the current cabinets they will allow us to reselect the following:

Countertops
floor tiles
backsplash
valence
crown molding
hardware
door/cabinet upgrade levels

essentially rechoose everything in the kitchen.

We were told back in JANUARY that they had been having problems with Canac and they were trying to get out of their contract with them.
We own a 36ft lot Thistle Bay, our supplier ended up being Cortina (which is usually only available for 46 and 50 ft lots).

I anticipate Mattamy must have know something long ago, we picked our stuff in Jan /08 and they were having problems then. Cortina is a great... we really liked the selections.

Good luck to everyone.

Jenn

how long are our cabinets under warranty for? Is Canac the supplier for the granite and quartz counter tops as well??

No, Mattamy uses The Surface Group in Oakville. They did our Quartz countertops, although VERY VERY expensive, and did a fantastic job.. our kitchen looks awesome.

This is very interesting. We too have our DC appointment on Oct 2nd. I don't see the point of picking from the canac selection if they are going to end up changing the supplier.

You really can't blame Mattamy for this. What control could they possible have. I'm sure it will all work out for everyone.

I spoke with Annie Criminale yesterday, and I asked her about Canac situation. She said that all she can tell me is that Canac has assured Mattamy that all the houses that are currently under production will be taken care of.

She doesn't have any other info. I am not sure if that means our house which is closing in Jan 2009 would be covered under the agreement b/w Mattamy and Canac, or we will have to go and re-select our cabinetry from another supplier.

She asked me to call in a weeks time.
Regards,

-Riaz

I held off purchasing my home so long because they didn't know the cabinet supplier for Vista, and I didn't want Canac cabinets..
Guess I won't have to worry about that anymore!!

If anyone from Mattamy is reading this, CORTINA should be next in line considering the good stuff I have heard about them, as well as the excellent color & design choice options..
I will be thriled if they use Cortina in the Vista site!!

My husband & I were at the sales center this week-end and we spoke to Nick about the whole Canac situation. He said that didn’t know what or who they were going to switch over to at this point as it’s too early to tell. He did say that Canac would probably be honoring the current home owners orders. If you ordered your cabinets already you my just receive them. Either way they will have a solution shortly and we can all get to pick our cabinets!
