My girlfriend bought a house in Cambridge and she says that her DC said they have Aya for their cabinet supplier…so we probably have the same 

Happy Shopping.

At Mattamy U yesterday, Mattamy confirmed that houses closing by Dec. 15/08 would get their Canac cabinets. Those closing afterwards will need to change from Canac.

Mattamy continues to work on securing an appropriate alternate and will try to match as best as possible your Canac style with the new yet-to-be-slected provider (for those that have already selected Canac and have houses closing after Dec. 15.)

However, for those of us that have/will have Canac, As to Qs about the following remain outstanding:
- warranty
- replacing damaged cabinetry noted on PDI

For us closing between now and Dec. 15 I-m particularly concerned about damages to be found in PDI (my fingers are crossed though)

J&J let me get this straight for those of us closing after the fact we still have to choose from Canac and then Mattamy will try and match our cabinet with the next supplier. I don't think I like that too much!!

In answer to my Canac Qs re: PDI and warranty, Mattamy stated the following (within 30 mins of e-mail inquiry):

"Canac and Kholer... will service cabinets until the one year warranty of all their products have expired."

So, those awaiting pdi-noted issues and those of us closing by Dec. 15 are relatively good.

That's not exactly what I meant. If you fall in the after-Dec. 15th crowd, you'll need to speak to Mattamy. What mattamy said was that they'd work with home buyers to get as close-to-what-was-picked with whomever their new vendor is and the home buyer. Mattamy shouldn't change anything w/o you.

I do however find it odd that Mattamy is still allowing people to choose Canac for homes closing after Dec. 15th. They may be doing this so you get a feel for the style you want so when you get the choice of the new vendor it may be easier. That said, IMHO Mattamy should put a hold on Canac cabinet selection until the new vendor is selected for homes closing after Dec. 15th.

Sorry I misunderstood. I'll see what they tell us on Thursday.

More about Canac in the news

Quote:
Sep 30, 2008 (The Charlotte Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- KHCO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Wisconsin-based Kohler Co. will close its Canac kitchen cabinetry division and lay off 522 workers at its Statesville plant next month because of the weak U.S. housing market, company officials announced

Canac president Ralph Howard also blamed the closing on recent construction softness in Canada, escalating costs of raw materials, a decline in orders and a competitive, price-sensitive kitchen cabinetry market.

I only did my structurals today. Carol told me the same no point on choosing right now. They are hoping to have a new supplier by next week.

We have moved into our 2nd Mattamy house.... we had an Aya Kitchen in the first house... it was horrible... poor service... and it took 2 years for them to replace some of the defects..... Our new house has Canac... let me say.... Canac out of business..... THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes yes.... I know it is troublesome and inconvienient.... But the quality that Canac produces is terrible..... We have had so many issues with our kitchen and bathrooms it is slightly redic.....!!!!!!!!!!!! We spent thousands on upgrades in our kitchen, and not a dime was well spent. For everyone closing after Mid December I hope that you get a supplier other then Aya. For those of you who have Canac now... and outstanding issues, I am with you... very concerded. We are still waiting (after 5mths) for many many issues to be resolved. Any who... best of luck to all...

K

Hi..I was wondering if anyone knows, if our homes closes in Feb 09..and we already picked our cabinets, if we will have to choose new ones from the new supplier (i hope so)

I was told by my DC consultant that they are trying to find a cabinet supplier that can pretty much match what Canac had offered. So this would prevent people who have already chosen to reselect. If they can't I believe you will be able to reselect. If not there will be a lot of unhappy home owners.
