Hi Rob,

Yes I did it on Friday morning. It went well for the most part. I can't say I was disappointed in to much. There were a few major things mainly with the exterior of the house. They still need to finish my balcony and the railings. They have locked me out of the balcony since it is not done and the jecuzzid didn't work. Those were some of the things that were wrong.

I am set to close tomorrow.

If you don't mind me asking, did you take a home inspector with you or did you just do it on your own?

I went with my dad and sister Rob.
When i checked with the home inspectors on this site they suggested having a home inspector for the 30 day and the year end because then you have been living in the home for a while.

Ya I saw that.. We did the last one on our own with no problem but because of all the crap I've been reading I've been contemplating using the guy with the PDI assist thing just to make sure I've noted everything.... Will be interesting to see how things all work out for everyone....

Hey Rob,
Have they said when they are going to start the detached homes. I can't wait for everyone to be moved in.

Someone was saying within the next couple of weeks.. I know our contract had a start date of May 5th but that came and went, still lots of time especially given that some of the houses won't close until November....

hey sorta off topic, but I was talking to a colleague and her closing is mid-late sept. She mentioned to me her Mattamy U date is June 4th (is that when most of you guys are going?) she got a detached non spirit home (forgot which one), and what was was interesting is that her house is built IN A FACTORY?! supposedly just down the street from our community...

do you guys know if our (Mainstreet Detached Homes) will be built on site or in a factory? pro's and con's? do we even have a choice?

You can see it from the site actually, it's a HUGE building, if you search this board there's lots of discussions about it. Ours won't be factory built, at least none of the other mainstreets were. I prefer it that way personally, especially based on the stuff I've read about the houses coming out of there...

I asked this question and they explicitly said that the detached homes are built on site. This is not optional.

I'll have to search harder... I didn't pull anything (or there were too many threads) when I searched for "factory built"

either way it's not a HUGE deal for me... I've heard horror stories with houses being built on site (which I thought is the majority??) the weather is nice now anyway, and by the time it's completed it'll be decent weather too... is there a reason why you DON'T prefer the factory built homes?

ya, even if it was an option I don't think I would request it... if it were in the middle of winter, maybe... I heard it was much more expensive to have your home built in a factory too

Hi all!

Sorry we haven't been on the forum!

Looks like a LOT is happening... The Towners are closing!! How exciting! Congrats Reg and Andrea!

Now comes the wait for us, detached folks... we did our structural appointment a few weeks ago and have the brick appointment at the beginning of June... no invites to U.

We are supposed to close Oct. 13... fingers crossed.

We will see...

Michele & Amanda

we close one day after you guys! we haven't even had our appointment yet for brick colour etc... when's your 2nd appt at the DC? I think we should have similar time lines... we haven't gotten an invite to Mattay U either... we emailed Kelly Spencer and I think she told us just to come on the June 4th one??? seems like a lot of people on our stree are going on that day and streets close by

Hi Magurn Laner's,

Rob thanks for asking. My closing went very well. I have no real complaints with how the house turned out. There were a few minor things that they were working on when I arrived but other then that all went well.

Now I have big news for all of you detached laners.... You have been dug!!! How exciting!!! I am not sure if all have been. It doesn't look like it but, I think the first 4 or 5 have been I think. I wasn't able to get pictures while the diggers were out on your land but I saw them during the day today. I was a bit busy dealing with getting my phone and cable installed and then getting my appliances in the afternoon. By the time I had time to take pictures they were gone for the day. I will do better next time. So for those of you that have time tomorrow I think it is worth the drive to come up and see. I have now taken some pictures this evening at 7:25pm and will post them later tonight.

Take care and maybe I will see you when you come up. :D
