wow they really go through that effort of measuring exactly where on the street the car is and where the valve stem is? isn't it just easier to chalk the tire? i think if if i had guests over and saw someone stooped down near their car I'd run out of the house with a bat or something to see what the hell they were doing

I'd imagine if they chalk your tires, there is more of a chance that you'll know a ticket is pending, and go out and move the car 3 feet to start a fresh 3 hours.

No markings = greater revenue.

Ha! We had a lovely neighbor on our street who used to come out and wipe off the chalk marks from all the tires...regardless if she knew the vehicles or not. Now that's what I call looking out for your neighbors :D

okay one more fun parking enforcement ticket story...

My wife parked her car on the road yesterday as we had the driveway resurfaced. Front of the driveway was closed off with a rope and it was obvious from looking at the driveway that it had just been resurfaced. Then at 4:30 in the afternoon *poof* the parking ticket fairy arrives and tickets her car that cant park in the driveway until it dries.

There were no other cars on the street at the time I our neighbours are all great people, doubt anyone called it in.

Thanks Milton parking enforcement for another job well done! In all seriousnesss though I know they were just following the bylaw, which we had broken but like an earlier poster said, is it really a big deal during the day time that a car parks on the street for over three hours, especially when it is obvious the driveway is temp. unavailable?

Will call today and see if they will dismiss the ticket for us, you dont know if you dont try right!

Just a question - how would the parking enforcement know which car belonged to which driveway? i.e. how would they know that your wife's car was on the road because your driveway was being resurfaced and it wasn't someone visiting a neighbour?

presumably a car parked in front of a house will indicate that the person who drove that car is in that, that logic is also probably more applicable especially when a driveway is roped off...but get this, even if you wanted to make it clear that it your car by parking IN FRONT of your driveway that is being resurface, you still get ticketed for that!!

I wouldn't agree with that statement, especially presuming that most of the streets around here only have parking on one side. The space in front of our house is almost always taken, and never by us or someone visiting us. I'm not being argumentative, but just pointing out that the people out there giving out tickets are actually doing their job, and they are doing it consistently (i.e. not making assumptions).

Hey Zeeshan... i agree 110% with you! If you remember the infamous "black car" parking thread...well that was mine. The bottom line was that for 2 + years, my car was never considered as overhanging, even though cars got ticketed next to my "overhanging" car for parking for over 3 hours, mine never was...until someone started complaining. Following that we even had to go defend our case to the city as a friendly neighbor was trying to have 3 legal spots removed right in front of my house on the basis of safety (i'm corner lot on crescent). After our two friendly councilor (Wendy and Paul i believe?) drove on our street and realize how silly the complaint was, it was quickly dropped.

I have a lot of family from Quebec/friends in town who visit and that just what i have been doing (musical chair thing). It's a band aid, not a solution, i agree.

Many neighbors wanted the 15 hour parking but it's sometimes hard to mobilize everyone. When we went to the city meeting for the parking complaint, it was mentioned that they are approving 15 hour parking more so than in the past recognizing the need for it. You just need someone to head it up.

Parking is not the primary reason (obviously) we are moving in old Milton but with 3 kids between 7 and 12 and 2 cars, storage/parking starts to be an issue for sure with the current city by-laws.

Mike, where are you moving BTW...Marcellus by any chance??

cheers,
mat
