I was thinking the same thing this morning... My guess was/is the car inside the garage...

Are we the only ones not moved in yet??? Is that why it's so quiet in here???

So we went on our framewalk, Ryan is awesome. Our house is awesome! We can't wait to get in!

Can someone explain how the Air Exchanger heats the house? Ryan explained it twice and I still am not sure how it works...

Michele

We go for our PDI tomorrow and we're just trying to get everything nailed down for our closing next week. Sooooooooooo not much to talk about ;-)

It doesn't, the furnace heats the house, the air exchanger brings in fresh air from outside and uses the outgoing air to heat/cool the incoming air accordingly so the furnace has to work less do... Though I've heard a lot of nightmares on huge heating bills because people have left it on exchange all the time.

Good luck Rob and Jen on your PDI. Oh how exciting for you. I can't wait to see some more cars in the laneway after you detachers close in the next couple of weeks.

Doug and Julie,
How was your close. I see that you guys have moved in now. Congratulations. How do you find it with all the construction around you?

Hey there Ed, I am sorry I didn't get back to you. I did get your message and I actually don't have a backsplash in the house yet. I plan to get one but havn't done it yet.

I just talked to Ryan and he mentioned that we have to call Milton Hydro to set up our own utilities rather than have the lawyer do it. He said they just closed a house today and Milton Hydro locked it up until the utilities were set up. And Milton Hydro won't talk to the lawyer. Rob & Jen, I hope that wasn't you!?

Also... the words I was looking for was the Heat Recovery System we have instead of a furnace... It draws the hot water out of the hot water heater, sends it through a coil that a fan blows through pushing fresh, warm air up into the house. The warm water just returns to the hot water heater. Sorry I was confused with the HVAC.

I hope all is going well for everyone! We are 45 days away!

Doug & Julie, we seem to miss you everytime we are out to the house. Although I have introduced myself to a few contractors thinking they were you... :) We are looking forward to meeting our next door neighbours and all our neighbours!

Michele

OK now you're confusing me ;-) There's another piece that works with rewarming/cooling outside air and bringing it into the home, but I can't remember what the hell it's called even though she told me about it today ;-)

Utilities ya, we were warned about that by the lawyer, we had ours done several weeks ago, and we we don't close till next week, so no it's not, and won't be us with the utility problems ;-)

Rob - Thanks for that pic ... looking good! Saw you earlier in the week as well in the park playing with your lil ones ... by the time we walked out I think you guys were gone. :(

Michanda - Looking forward to meeting you two ... especially since we're literally across the street or laneway I should say.

Everyone else do you guys know answers to the following:
- Is our laneway shovelled by the city, I thought so but heard differently recently.

- Also any of you worried re. parking situation here in Milton with the 3 hour limit and such and only 18 excemptions per car a year. Ummmmm how does this work for us when you've got a growing family (i.e. lil grandkid superstar(s)) and family wants to visit weekly! 18 considerations for one plate goes really quickly!

Bummer.... We'll see enough of each other soon enough though ;-)

I heard the snow removal thing as well... Just emailed Amanda about it, will let you know what she says.

Parking for us hasn't been a big deal, if they're visiting during the day we've never had a problem with ticketing, they usually only do that for cars that are there overnight. If you're having lots of overnight stays, you may run into a problem....

Just a quick post about our PDI. It went well. Took just over 2 1/2 hours to do it. We got Christina, she was nice, explained everything to us about the house as we went through and checked stuff. Overall I'm really happy with the work they've done. There wasn't anything I would consider a game ender. We had the usual paint touch ups and dings in the wall. They forgot to put up some siding under one of the windows, we had a brick I noticed that was badly cracked (which she agreed needed to be replaced), there were several spots on the exterior wall that needed to be sealed. I would say you guys should make sure to check outside closely, because there were some issues there. We got berber throughout, they did a sh*t job to be honest, Gen noticed it and started pointing out the deficiencies everywhere in it, Christiana seemed to be a little perturbed that they left the carpet the way they did and told us it would be remedied. Like I said earlier there were a bunch of little things, but overall I'm really happy with what I saw.

One a downer note, we talked to her about the bottom floor. She said it's going to be cold, no matter what we were told. That really pissed me off, apparently the only way to remedy that is with a radiant floor. I appreciate her honesty but if it turns out to be true, I will be really REALLY pissed off if we were lied to about "the changes they made to make sure it was ok". This winter will give us our answer one way or another I'm sure.....

Glad everything went relatively well.. hey I noticed walking by your garage that the fuse box was installed rather low... looks "upside down" actually.. ours is the same way... is this how it's SUPPOSED to be?

with the 1st floor thing.. how would she know that it would STILL be cold? it's obvious it's going to be coldER than the other two floors, but I'm hoping that the changes made will make it at least "livable" these changes were only done recently on the maintstreet homes no?

The 'STILL' part was in reference to the changes they made, she said they've made changes since the initial design but they haven't really helped in warming up the first floors in these homes..... I'm confused about it all as well. I hope she's wrong, but we'll have to until winter to find out.... And maybe you guys can ask your PDI person when you do yours as well... See what they say...

RE: the fuse box, looked fine to me to be honest, the only question we had was about an unterminated wire that they are supposed to get back to us about.

Response from Amanda regarding snow removal:

Hi Rob,

Your street will be plowed by Mattamy Homes until the Town starts snow
removal for your area.

Regards,

Amanda Ayles
Customer Care Coordinator
Mattamy Homes Limited

So it sounds like what we heard was incorrect and that Mattamy/town will be plowing the lane...
