Read 'em & weep. Globalive (WIND) gets rejected by the CRTC. All those poeple waiting to move to or sign up with Globalive/WIND will have to wait some more. But who knows how long.

They don't meet Canadian ownership and control requirements and cannot therefore set up shop as Canada's fourth national cellphone company.

So I guess you hate Wal-Mart, UPS, Greyhound, Shell, Esso, Costco, Value Village, McDonalds, Burger King, HMV, Best Buy, Future Shop.

I guess you don't own a single lightbulb or appliance made by General Electric? No Proctor and Gamble products under your kitchen sink?

How many things do you own in your home that say "Made in China"? Do you have Folgers in your cup every morning? Or even worse Tim Hortons (which by the way is partially owned by the Wendy's corporation, and Tim Hortons stores have sprung up in the United States. Ever ordered a Timmy's double double in Columbus Ohio? I have.)

These are ALL foreign companies that operate in Canada. It's what called a Canadian Subsidiary.

You're telling me, that you'd rather pay more money on a service than deal with a corporation that is partially owned by a foreign source? My, what flawed logic you have.

It's a fact of life: Businesses have no national allegance, unless it's a mom and pop store, chances are your big stores have investors and owners of international renown.

Consumers want more for cheaper. Who cares where the service comes from as long as it doesn't cost me, the consumer, an arm and a leg? I'd rather take Rogers and Bell down a few pegs. Open up the free competition.

It's funny because I work for the competition. It's great news for my company.

As for Globalive/WIND they have 30 days to appeal to the Federal Cabinet; with they will likely do. After that however, the Cabinet has up to 1 year to give their final ruling. That said, not sure how long this will delay this particulaer new entrant. They may still get domestic investors to assist; so we'll see. Other new entrants like Public Mobile, DAVE Wirless & Videotron to name a few, will likely join the wireless game sometime in Q1 2010.

I would say it’s still not funny...It is good for the Canadian job market as well. Globlive is hiring since last year, if they are to be being layedoff now that would be a burden on economy, isn’t it? That provider being in the market doesn’t mean more future job opportunities for you If you looses your job (may Almighty forbid) ? That provider being in the market doesn’t mean a chance to buy one more company for y’guyz? Your job is probably secure and would remain secure...Rogers and Telus are giants they shouldn’t bother much from new providers as there are always new customers. These giants will get the competition sooner or later so be ready for the competition...Youtube became more popular than google video but that didn’t crush the google who ended up buying it....likewise I believe Microsoft shouldn’t care whether RealPlayer or Netscape gets popular or not...but for some reason they don’t like the competition even smaller competition.

I wouldn't get too down on the CRTC's ruling. Despite the current setback Globalive is coming and the CRTC's decision is just delaying the inevitable competition for the Big 3, which I'm confident will be WIND!!

I never believe Globalive and other new companies will make any major change in the phone plans. Canada is a huge country with a little population. It is very expensive for the telecom companies to make infrastructe in a country like canada. Per Subscriber cost is much higher. So, never expect a price like U.S and many other countries. If they want to make it much cheaper then they will not survive. Same like what happened to Quebec based FIDO 4-5 years back. Very popular and cheap plans in Quebec for few years then became bankrupt and eventually bought by Rogers.

But the problem is these new companies have to setup network across canada not only in highly populated Toronto. Otherwise no coverage for their subscribers outside Toronto or high roaming charges for their subscribers when they roam to other operators networks outside Toronto.
