Are you unable to just Google it?
It was at this forum as well few times already.

http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/smt-gst.ns ... 05562.html
“As a buyer, how do I know when a system is legal or illegal?
• There are only two licensed DTH service providers in Canada that provide encrypted subscription DTH services: Star Choice and ExpressVu.
• Only paying subscribers to one of those licensed providers are entitled to decode their signals.
• A receiver labeled "DirecTV," "Echostar" or "Dish Network" is illegal in Canada, and serviced by an American provider who will not knowingly provide service in Canada.”

Nope. In those two examples they are not stealing anything.

So all crime is ok, unless it is stealing? how do you even back that argument? Having a DirecTV dish is worse than driving 90km/h on Scott??

First of all, the only thing being stolen is business from canadian providers. Nothing is actually being stolen.
These laws are to protect the canadian providers (NOT the american companies), so they are bogus IMO.
I am a paying cable subscriber myself but I used to have DirecTV when they were still grey market, before the laws came down.

This law is as silly as a law to prevent people from inventing new products that will take business away from big companies.

I have no glue what are you talking about. Do you?
Speeding is something like going 115 on 100 zone.
90 on Scott is totally different story you are jumping at. It is classified differently and was punished differently for a while.
Which small businesses are you talking about? Direct TV is big and American company.
Bell TV, Rogers, Shaw are local providers and they must provide local content under the law.
Do you know if they be smashed by giant USA companies it will be no money to produce local programs?
Like Corner Gas and Trailer Park Boys. Because it is all linked financially together. Specialty channels are profitable, but national (news) channels are not.
If you like to support bunch of Brampton-Markham guys smuggling satellite boxes from USA - so be it. Call it "a bussiness" if you like.
Just don’t dare to call yourself as Canadian. You’ll be watching FOX or even CNN anyway. LOL.
And be prepared to be taxed more to pay unemployment insurance for thousands of local actors, producers, editors and technicians.
Because their future will be stolen.

So I am not canadian because I watched directv for 2 years of my life? that's actually not a very nice thing to say.
I'm watching FOX right now. american baseball. and I was watching american basketball earlier. and american sitcoms. It is very unfair to suggest that I am not canadian because of something I watch for a couple of hours.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. So does everybody else reading this.

who said small companies?

I know people that don't even own a TV. are they not canadian because they aren't paying bell or cogeco?

LOL your final defense is a picture of the trailer park dude? funny.

More EI? LOL. seriously?? LOL.

If I was a dragon I'd just say "Enough, you've wasted my time and I'm going to send you a bill for the 8 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I'm out"
oh what was that? a Canadian TV reference.

good day.

Speeding is dangerous and kills people. I'm not jumping at that - you said yourself that watching US satellite is more of a crime than speeding. you said it, not me. how can you compare that to... ahhh nevermind.

I have no glue either. I have tile adhesive if you need some.

and for the record, no one in brampton or markham are setting up Directv.... the satellite shops in the GTA sell FTA (free to air) equipment, this equipment can get you free unencrypted channels from any number of satellites in the sky, or they can also get you dish or bell, but for that you would need the knowledge and resources to load hacked software onto the receivers.... and yes, that's the 'illegal' part.

Getting dtv involves using your imagination to get over some hurdles and actually becoming a paying subscriber directly with dtv. So no one is stealing, everything is legit.

Please make sure you know something before making it for the record.

Can I get DIRECTV in Canada?
"We are prohibited by law from offering service outside the United States. DIRECTV abides by all applicable legal restrictions and does not condone or support violation of law."

you're 100% correct. In the U.S, dtv cannot make itself available in Canada, its against US law to sell it here.

and since were now pulling out the facts and bylaws:

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/statutes/english/elaws_statutes_90h08_e.htm#s128s1

according to this, if you have ever or have continuously disobeyed any law listed under section 128 of the Ontario highway traffic act, then you are a criminal too!

Just to make all three to be mentioned here as illegal (criminal):

Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Particular Offences
Possession of substance
4. (1) Except as authorized under the regulations, no person shall possess a substance included in Schedule I, II or III.
SCHEDULE II
(Sections 2, 3, 4 to 7, 10, 29, 55 and 60)
1. Cannabis, its preparations, derivatives and similar synthetic preparations, including(1) Cannabis resin(2) Cannabis (marihuana)

Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

I don't know how to bring it for you clear and loud. May be this would help:
If I notice some of my neighbors doing something like these three, I’ll be not OK with this. Because personally I would like to see our neighborhood clean. Which includes this forum as well.
