We are most likely getting these appliances

http://www.geappliances.ca/brand/GE_Cafe/index.htm

- Dual Fuel Gas Stove
- Side by Side Fridge
- OTR Microwave
- Dishwasher

Does anyone have any experience/feedback when it comes to these appliances? Our DC appt. is this Friday and we have to provide specs for the stove, micro and fridge (as it's taller than the standard opening). Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys!

OTR microwaves have weaker fans. If you like to cook and/or use spices than I wouldn't recommend the OTR microwave.

Thats just my experience...

I know and we were struggling with that a little, but due to our kitchen layout there really isn't a good spot to put a microwave and we do use it. We don't have alot of counter space and this seems to be the most practical solution. Generally we cook alot on the weekends and just re-heat/make simple meals during the week. We had the worst fan ever at our old house, so hopefully I won't notice too much of a difference between that and the OTR....fingers crossed. Either way, it's too late now as we've already had our structural and went with the upgrade to shorten that cabinet to accommodate a OTR, I can't change it to the fan now, unless we do it ourselves after we close.

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate any and all input!

I was strongly considering these but when it was time for me to order mine, they weren't quite readily in stock yet...so we went for other choices.

I wanted to put in the word that depending on where you get your mortgage, and if you are high-ratio (less than 20% down) if you insure with Genworth, you can get some great discounts/incentives on their appliances. Nothing huge, but they are great, and something you wouldn't otherwise receive nonetheless.

Most mortgage people have access to some great discounts, etc. but there's always so much to cover just going over mortgage options that it often gets left out....I always felt bad when I missed it not due to time, but just due to an overwhelming process for the buyers.... check it out! :)

Jessica :)

Thanks Jessica....great tip! We'll be putting down more than 20% so we won't be insuring with Genworth, but this is a great option for others!

My dad works for GE so we're able to order these at a discounted rate! :D

Glad to hear that you were also considering these. The reviews are pretty good, aside from the few odd negatives.

The GE Cafe microwave has a 315 CFM fan.
If you go with Panasonic OTR microwave, it comes with 420 CFM fan so it's a little stronger.

Thanks Patricia! I'll look up the Panasonic OTR...I'm a little particular when it comes to matching...lol, but I'll definitely talk to hubby about this option. Thanks!

I chose the Panasonic OTR microwave to get a stronger fan. The stainless steel is going to match great with my appliances :). It's nice that there's no handle on the model I chose so it provides a cleaner look. Good luck!

Thanks Josphine and katd, I really appreciate your input!

Katd....I heard about the knob problem too and it seems to be an issue with other GE stoves (profile), not just the cafe range....it's covered under the warrantee so I'm not too concerned, but good to be aware of this!

We have GE Cafe... we got the 600 CFM hood fan instead of the OTR microwave. We bought ours from Quan TV & Appliances who were at the Toronto home show last year.

We are very happy with them... go for it !

I just noticed that I posted the wrong website...this isn't the fridge we're getting...the one we want is the Custom Syle, Side by Side by GE Cafe. It's not as deep (29" I believe) and it's taller...about 72". Is this the one you have dvm? It's a 24.5 cubic foot...I'm hoping it's large enough, but I'd rather it be more flush with the counter and am willing to sacrifice space I guess.

Thanks for all your feedback!

Yes, thats the fridge we have.. it is counter depth so its flush with our counters but we loose space for storage. We do find it tight but we plan to get a 2nd fridge in the basement soon.
