I vote no. Changing it, is the stupidest idea I've heard in a while... I wonder how it made it into the throne speech.

This is simply a distraction from the budget itself. Another conservative ploy to slip things by the public. They're really good at this.

My mom had the same theroy- either a new tax, or a big scandal is about to break.

Personally, I'd like to change it. Not the words of "O Canada", but I'd like to change our national anthem to "It Takes Two" by Rob Base & D.J. E-Z Rock.

I might actually be able to stay awake through the whole song for a change.

This does surprise me, especially coming from Stephen Harper.

Aperrantly that's not the original version and was changed to honour all the fallen "sons" of WW1. why would someone want to mess with that?

Very stupid , it makes me think of the competancy of the government. It sounds like a distraction for sure.

Im not sure if the issue is actually gender related... my understanding is that the song is based around God... even still, I dont hear the atheists complaining.

My post is not a version.

I just copied the anthem and pasted it, and then changed one line. You don't need top smash your TV over it.

Going with the theme of "it's a distraction", I'll put $10 that just as this starts dying down, someone else will pipe up that the part "God keep our land glorious and free." is an insult to all other religions and needs to be changed too.

On a side note... upon checking up on "It Takes Two" to make sure it doesn't have any offensive lyrics, I was gobstoppered to discover they weren't Canadian after all. All these years I thought they were, I don't know why. So instead of selecting something not-so-awesome, I think we should just make them honorary Canadians, and THEN make "It Takes Two" the new national anthem.

It drives me nuts how politically correct we've come ... only in Canada would this even be considered.
