I actually still say whatever's in my mind about every topic (see "should we tax lottery winnings", "no-frills at derry / scott" etc).

In this specific topic if the question was posed before the decision then I'd do a big writeup (supporting Jeet). But after the decision is already made I have no reason to question trustees.

I personally do not worry about the influence. My kids have never watched wrestling and they still aren't allowed to . But I still told them about TJS and his contributions to the community. They are also not allowed to watch violent movies but they often do know actors playing in those movies. In fact, they've never watched any movie with Angelina Jolie but if she was local then I'd totally support honouring her, despite all the violent roles she has played over the years.

My mother is often shocked that I watch hockey with my kids, seeing what goes on some times. We are just immune to thinks that are part of our culture.

A lot of my friends in Mississauga went to "TLK" (how many people honestly know what it stands for?) It seems like many kids here will go to "TJS". From everything I have read, it is a well-deserved honour.

Personally I think it would of been more appropriate to name a park, library or something else other than a school after him. It's great he has given alot to charity but I don't like the idea of rich people who can afford to give to charity being honoured with their names on public places. There is just as many people who volunteer who don't have money but give selflessly with time, etc. but never recognized as those who have money.

I'm more impressed with people who give to charity anonymously without the need of having their ego stroked.

Naming a school, (and an elementary school at that), after a "sport" where humans beat on each other, is imo, simply disgusting. No wonder it made the news...

Instead of getting hung up on what the man does, or how much money he has spent in Milton "to buy" a title, why not take the time to appreciate what he represents to our community?

He came here with nothing, used whatever skills he had to make an honest living, made a financial success of himself and gave something back to the community so that everyone can benefit from what he's worked ( acting or otherwise) so hard to achieve. What's wrong with naming a school after someone like that?

Now I don't approve of violence but I'd like my kids to work hard, achieve success and become contributing members of society. In todays world, he's an inspiration for kids who are especially not academically inclined. No software genius here, just a man with a dream, the basics and the determination to make something of himself.

If you take away his name, his profession and his turban, what is everyone objecting to? What's really so disgusting? Intolerance, on any level ( someone's job or choice of sport?) - that's what's disgusting.

I think it just plain wrong to name a public building after someone still living. I dont care if he/she is a wrestler, icehockey player, basketball player/ baseball player or a millionaire. Name public buildings after real heros. Firemen or policemen who died in the line of duty. Or a soldier who died fighting for our freedoms. This here is just plain Hollywood nonsense.

With all due respect to those who have died in service and who should have "memorials" dedicated to them, think of the impact it would have on kids if the person their school was named after, could visit their school and speak with them. Messages delivered that way could stay with them for life. Perhaps even inspire them to want to be able to do the same as successful adults.

Also, I guess all those firemen, policemen and soldiers still alive and performing their duty are not "real heroes" by your way of thinking. I'm sure the people who benefit from Tiger Jeet Singh's contribution to the Milton Hospital and are alive because of the equipment or infrastructure his money bought, wont care that he was a wrestler or still alive, but would be grateful that he's a humanitarian and a Miltonian.

Chris Hadfield comes to mind. Great role model, still living, enjoys visiting his school namesake and talking to the kids when he comes to town. The town is proud of him, so why not? Same goes for Tiger Jeet Singh. After reading his accomplishments, dedication to the community and continued charity work the professional wrestling part pales in comparison. His dedication to the community he still lives in and contributes to shows what he's worth to this town - alot. I think he deserves the honour.

Why not let the citizens that pay tax who live in that area vote on proposed names in the first place?


Annie, sorry if you misunderstood. All fire/police are heros in my mind. Living or dead. I simply do not agree with naming public buildings after living people with public tax dollars.
