Hi guys,

We bought all our appliances today from the Bay downtown. They gave us the best price by far, after beating both Goemans and Sears' best quotes. They will hold them until our closing in November. Plus, we've got a 24 month deferred payment plan, with no deferral fee, which is great. We only had to pay taxes now, while the balance is due in 24 months from now.

So, we've got:
-Kitchen Aid fridge KFIS20XVMS (french doors, bottom freezer, door ice/water dispenser, counter depth),
-Kitchen Aid slide-in range YKESS908SS (convection),
-Kitchen Aid Suprema dishwasher KUDS40FVSS
and Bosch washer WFVC3300UC and dryer WTVC3300CN (no steam technology).

We paid for everything about $8K, tax and delivery included! Plus, we'll get a $600 mail-in rebate from Kitchen Aid and about $100 worth of HBC rewards.

We're quite happy, we don't have to worry about this anymore :)

PS If anyone interested, the Bay's sales person's name is Scott Pinkney, 416-861-6025.

Here we go: height at the garage door is 10 ft, at kitchen wall is 9.5 ft (since there is a slop towards the door). The drop right in the midle 1.5 ft in all dimentions - probably the duct. I had to install garage door opener on the drop as this is only place where it can be mounted.
Cheers.

Hey Everyone!
Angelo and I picked out our brick this week. We went with package CS-19a. It is reddish/brownish and not very common but we saw one house with it and we really liked it. So we are crossing our fingers it looks good on our house (Juneberry).
We also have our structural and colour appointment on Tuesday. We asked to do everything at one time. Once the baby comes I am thinking we won't have much time. So we will be at the design centre probably all day Sunday stressing over all the choices:) wish us luck!
Have a great weekend!
Thanks Dean for posting that link to the Juneberry for sale. Pretty amazing how the prices are going up!
Andrea

Andrea, we will see you there on Sunday. We have friends coming with us to give us a second opinion on some of our choices. Maybe we can help each out as well? I think it gets difficult picking because there are so many choices. In the end, just be happy with your choice. No one will see the other options that were available once the house is built, just the choice you made.

See you there! :D

Hi guys,

So Alex and I have been spending A LOT of time appliance shopping. I feel like this is house is becoming our second job:)

Last night we drove out to TA Appliances in Kitchener where they have a very big selection of slide in gas ranges. Still have not purchased anything but we have narrowed down the brands we like to Bosch, Kitchen Aid and Samsung (for their fridges). One question that I have for everyone is what depth of fridge to go with? Most are offered in standard depth of 34" and others have a shorter counter depth of 28-29". The counter depth ones tend to be more expensive. I e-mailed our design consultant and she said either one would fit in the kitchen. So we are not sure what the pros and cons of each one are and if its worth it to spend the extra money on the counter depth one. Any feedback would be appreciated!

As for pricing, here's what we've found:
- Goeman's - not the best pricing but there is the flexibility to do lots of negotiation. 20% deposit required and they will order the appliances closer to the delivery date. They offer lots of mail in rebates.
- Future Shop - same pricing as Goeman's BUT they require payment in full upfront! Warranty kicks in on day of purchase which means you lose 6 months if you buy now. They said later on they could try to reprint a new receipt with the Nov closing date….however that makes me nervous especially if the person we are dealing with leaves the company. They also take all the manufacturer rebates and include them in the price, so no mail in rebates to submit after the fact. The price is slightly lower to reflect that.
- The Maytag Store - high pricing. They will only take 10% off the sticker price. No further negotiation can take place.
- TA Appliances - great selection, very knowledgeable staff and great pricing. Right now they are coming in at the lowest price for us. So we will most liekly go through them unless Goeman's can match the price.

Also one note to Sylvain & Cornelia on the Kitchen Aid Rebates: I know you said that you will get $600 back in mail-in rebates. However the only catch is that you have to take delivery of the appliances before June 30th. You need to send in the serial number to get the rebate one you get the appliances. So unless your sales person will somehow get those serial #s for you, I don't see how you will be able to get the rebates. I would call him to double check!

So that’s the update. Hopefully for those of you who have not started appliance shopping yet, that this has been helpful.

Diana

Hey Diana,

We went ahead and got the biggest fridge Samsung makes (seems like it anyways) and I think although it sticks out, it looks great. I took some shots on my bb but you can see the result here
http://www.hawthornevillager.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=201083#201083

I split my purchase between Future Shop and Maytag store because during boxing day Maytag had some great deals on stoves, and for $1599 taxes in I think we almost stole the KitchenAid gas stove.
http://www.hawthornevillager.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=183425#183425

We did pre-pay at FutureShop as we bought only 2 months before close and we were OK with that. I'll caution that some of those places where you buy 6+ months in advance (I know Brick operates this way) that they take a deposit but don't actually hold anything. There is a good chance that the item you want either a> won't be available anymore b> won't be available on the day you are getting the rest of the appliances. Then after months of research and negotiating, you gotta make a quick decision and flip to another model. Future Shop holds all of the appliances in the warehouse (apparently) and so on the day you get what you ordered -- it worked for me anyways.

I'm sure I'm not about to make any friends at the Milton Maytag store, but its their policies I don't particularly love. I bought a dishwasher from them and it appears to have arrived DOA. I had my 13 year old brother wait for the shipment and that he would call me and I'd rush over (I was at our old house 10 mins away). The driver refused to wait for me and delivered and left before I got there. Also, when I called them when my dishwasher was hooked up and it wouldn't power on, I need to call Whirlpool directly to file a warranty claim and they have to send a tech to assess it. Of course they only have during the day appointments so after taking off a week to move I gotta take another day off to wait for a tech. Fortunately I was able to call one of their authorized repair companies (Harmony) and that dude will come on Saturday so thank god. I asked what Milton Maytag's return policy was and the answer was they don't have one!

The only pro for counter depth fridges are esthetics. It looks alot better counter depth.

The con is less room and price.

If you really care about fridge space get a regular depth fridge.

Were going with the Kitchen Aid KFCS22EVMS which is a counter depth french door stainless steel fridge.

Here are some pictures of our old house with a Kitchen Aid side by side counter depth fridge:

Hi Diana,

We were aware of the June 30th deadline on the form, but on the advice of our sales person we called KitchenAid and they said we have until September 25 to provide the serial numbers, which is 2 months before our closing. So, the appliances will be delivered to the Bay sometime in September, they'll give us the serial numbers and then keep them there until our November delivery. They were very accomodating and willing to go the extra mile to help us. The only downfall, the warranty will kick-in when the boxes are opened to get the serial numbers - about 2 months before delivery.
Also, we bought an OTR microwave as well - YKHMS2050SS, so we now expect $700 mail-in rebate.

Regarding the fridge: we decided to go with counter-depth, as a regular one would stick out about 5 inches. Yes, it's more expensive and it has less capacity than a regular one, but it will be flush with the cabinets :)

I think it's a waste of time (and gas) to physically go to all the appliance stores. Here's what our strategy was:
-Put together a list of all major appliance stores with addresses and phone numbers;
-Go to a place that has lots of floor models and knowledgeable reps (like Sears, Goemans, etc.) and decide exactly what you want to buy; write down the product numbers and get a quote;
-Start calling the other places, one by one and ask for a quote over the phone by providing the product numbers; ask to beat the previous quote, which you can reduce by a few hundred $. To simplify, you can give them the overall quote, not the breakdown;
-After a few quotes, you'll have a clear idea on how far the discounts can go. At this point, you can make a decision as where to buy based on other incentives - payment plan, delayed delivery policy, etc.

Hope this helps in your appliance hunting! We ended up buying from the Bay downtown.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and information! I love this forum and how helpful everyone is!

Devious: Great choice on the Samsung fridge. My hubby loves this model….the huge capacity, LED lighting and smart interior movable shelves makes it a very practical fridge. It is one of our top choices for a standard size fridge. Its great that you were able to get this great deals on Boxing Day. With our November closing, and having to provide the slide-in range specs to Mattamy soon, we don't have much choice but to buy now.

Dean: For the counter depth fridge, we have been looking at two Kitchen Aid Models: 1) KFSI20XVMS 20 cubic feet, 68.5" high (same one that Sylvain purchased) and the the KFCS22EVMS model 22 cubic feet 72 inches tall (which is the one you are going with). We like the extra space and bottom drawer layout of the KFCS22EVMS model but I thought that since the fridge is taller than the allowed Mattamy fridge height requirements of 70.5" that we then would be unable to get it (unless they shortened the cabinet above it). So we just dropped this fridge out of our scope based on that. Is your fridge opening in your home bigger or did you get approval from your consultant to go with this 72" height fridge. Hmmm, makes me wonder if we still have a chance with it:) The other option for us is waiting until the new Bosch french door fridge will come out, but it may not be for another 6 months which is too late.

Sylvain & Cornelia: That's great that The Bay is being so accomodating in getting the appliances early in for you. $700 can go a long way! The 2 month warranty lost is not a huge deal. And I like the OTR microwave you selected, the LCD display is cool!

And yes going to all these appliance stores is exhausting. I have now resorted to e-mailing some places with our specs to get quotes, although I have not gotten any replies back (I guess they don't like to share pricing via e-mail?).

Diana,
I was able to alter the size of the fridge opening at my DC appointment. The code for the alteration is KC/CANAC0040 - Revise Fridge Opening - cost was 0.00 (free)
