Since I am living in HVE, I must say that I was excited when I saw that a new Chinese Food restaurant was opening in the new plaza at Derry / Bronte Rd. However, upon trying the food earlier this week I was utterly disappointed.

My chicken fried rice had so much liquid smoke in it, I could barely eat it and the general tao chicken was so dry that I think it was ordered at lunch and no one picked it up and they just gave me an order that has been sitting around for several hours.

I guess that's what I get for straying away from the best Chinese Food Restaurant in Milton, GOLD CITY! They do things right at Gold City.

I will never eat at China Star again.

Has anyone else had a similar negative experience there?

The portions were much smaller than our regular place.
The rice was dry too.
We won't be ordering from there a 2nd time!

Prices were cheap...

Sweet and Sour Pork, were fried battered pork pieces drenched in orange sauce...
Fried Rice was dry...
The Chow Mein was decent....
All that for $20

I think i gotta try the whole menu to find out what they have thats actually good.

we actually had take out from them tonight... it wasnt too bad, but not too good either! Its the closest Chinese food place to us, so we will probably just go there again when the craving hits.

I usually get my Chinese food fix at my in-laws in Mississauga... Milton doesn't have anything compared to Mississauga by-way of Chinese food.

Gold City is also our fav as well in Milton....(Nothing will/still ever tops the old "Chung King" in Streetsville

Has anyone noticed their food is sliding a little though?? I was disappointed on my last 2 orders...

Our fav is Empire Wok in the Metro plaza. Never a complaint always good food and fast even when they are busy.

Gold City had a bad exp there once never went back.

I guess I know not to try China Star now, they wont be around long if they keep up the bad quality since there are other places in town to get good chinese food from.

When Golden City is busy, expect rude service.

I did not mind China Star. I've been there 3 times.

I have had China Star a few times and it has been fine. I really liked the rice, and the general tao was good too. It could have been a little hotter (flavor). Egg rolls are different than normal too, but also very good....

We used to get Gold City all the time, we noticed however their prices are always going up and the service is not as great anymore.

We LOVE Empire Wok!!! Their crab and cheese dumplings are awesome!!

I'm so sorry....I didn't mean to say Gold City....my error. I meant China House. We did Gold City a few times and had a very bad experience there that landed my husband and I with food poisoning Which was too bad as I know others speak highly of it.

We had it yesterday and found it good.

Tried China Star, it was ok.. the rice was dry and I didn't like the sooguy sauce from there... China House is my fav, and my hubby like Empire Wok the best... so we alternate.

Tremendous in Mississauga. I remember hitting that place up after a night out at 3-4am ish. Its old skool there!
