EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Former Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell is back in the NBA, this time as an assistant with the New Jersey Nets.

Head coach Avery Johnson has also hired former Milwaukee head coach Larry Krystkowiak.

Also named to the New Jersey staff were former Raptor player Popeye Jones, who worked with Johnson in Dallas, and Nets’ holdovers John Loyer and Tom Barrise.

Mitchell, the 2006-07 NBA coach of the year, was the Raptors coach for four-plus seasons, leading them to two playoff appearances. He also served as an assistant in Milwaukee for two seasons after finishing a 13-year playing career.

perfect.
I knew he'd never be a Head Coach again.

He's so useless with matchups, play calling, and X's and O's that my two-yr old kid could likely beat him at Tic Tac Toe.

Does this mean the Raptors don't have to pay the rest of his salary or at least not as much?

I was first to cheer for his departure... All my joy went down the drain the moment Jay replaced him.

Why can't we get someone like Doc, Phil, Brown, Thibodeau... caliber

Probably one of two things:

1) MLS is too cheap to pay a premium to get this type of coach.

or

2) These types are just as arrogant and stubborn about coming to Canada as the players are.
