Allergic to Needles! A Child's Dream, a Parents Nightmare!

We just found out that out daughter is allergic to needles. Well not the needle it self we think it is the preservative in the needles. We are in the beginning stages. If anyone know any information about this sort of thing, any information would be greatly appreciated. I was told it is 1 in a million case, there does not seem to be very much info available. I want and need more info. Obviously, we will be having many more visits with the Doctor's and specialist, but any extra info could be beneficial. She has been tested and can not take MMR, DTP, Tetanus, Flu or any other form of a vaccine.

I am now thinking what about the dentist, stitches any of the small child hood incidents? Looks like we will be visiting the allergy specialist a lot.

I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on this.

Thank you

Sorry to know about it. The emerging technology for “Drugs Injection System” is replacing needles with alternative methods such as injecting through a bandage etc. This is called “Needle-Free Drug Injection Systems”.
Hopefully, it will help your daughter.

Refer the link below as an example:

Thanks, Raj

Thank you that's very interesting.

I will look into that, as i said earlier she is not allergic to the needle itself but we think it is the preservative. Maybe in this dry form they do not use preservative or maybe different ones that she may not be allergic to.

We will be taking for more testing and I will be sure to bring this up.

Thank you, this maybe an alternative solution for us.

Do you mean to the actual needle itself or to the preservative in the vaccination?

If the preservative in the vaccine, this is the case for my sister.

She still does get certain vaccines, but takes benadryl before hand and gets them done at the hospital. She only gets what vaccines she feels is neccessary and then gets bloodwork to see if she is immune before getting a routine booster. For example, Hep B is typically 3 injections, she had immunity after only 2 so did not get the 3rd. Same with MMR - only had 1 injection and has immunity so did not get the 2nd booster. She does not get the yearly flu vaccine.

She has been fine with this and has never had a complication when doing this way. A major PITA, but weighs out the risks of not being vaccinated against the risk of having an allergic reaction in a supervised setting.

She has never had a reaction to freezing done either at the dentist or for stitches so perhaps there is a different preservative in the freezing than for vaccines

Yes this is exactly what she has. She has had blood work done, and her blood shows that she has enough MMR, she is protected and does not need anymore injections. They said they are unable to check the blood for the DTP??? Not sure why. It's good here about the freezing, this I was unsure of. We will go get test done before we proceed, but if your sister has this, then it looks positive for us. If you can think of anymore I would love to hear about any information you have. As I get more information and questions I'm sure I will be Pm ing you... if that's ok with you. Thank you the freeze needle information takes a lot of weight of my shoulders, knowing that the dentist is probly ok. We have not got the Hep B shot but the allerist recommended to come back for testing before, he said she can outgrow it, but for now he said absolutly no needles.
