So the FIBA World Cup starts in couple of days in Turkey... I am all pumped up for it. USA hasn't won it since 1994. There will be great competition from Argentina who ranks first and Spain.

The teams are divided into 4 groups. Who will lead each group and why? Which team are you cheering for?

Group A
1. Angola
2. Argentina *
3. Australia
4. Germany
5. Jordan
6. Serbia

Group B
1. Brazil
2. Croatia
3. Iran
4. Tunisia
5. Slovenia
6. USA *

Group C
1. China
2. Cote d'Ivoire
3. Greece *
4. Russia
5. Puerto Rico
6. Turkey

Group D
1. Canada
2. France
3. Lebanon
4. Lithuania
5. New Zealand
6. Spain *

I Placed a STAR beside the teams I think will lead the groups.

I am cheering for Lebanon since it's my native land. Lebanon ranks 24th world wide and will have it's 3rd consecutive world cup appearance in a row. They beat France last championship and just lost today to Argentina 82-89 only.

I am also cheering for Canada for the obvious reasons.

Let the games begin.

Group A: Its between Argentina and Serbia

Group B: USA probably #1(even if their inexperienced),and it can be any of the others to fight it out for #2

Group C: Greece #1(Probably best team in tournment) and China or Puerto Rico #2

Group D: Spain #1(Most NBA players except for USA) Lithuania will probably be #2 (almost beat USA today ) Canada isn't that deep, only one 1 or 2 NBA players and the rest play in Diversion 2 leagues in Europe. But look out for Canada in the next 5-10 years as we will be in the Top 5 countries in the world.

I agree with this, my only changes are:

Croats or possibly Slovenes to take 2nd in Group B,
Turkey to take 2nd in Group C

Should be fun!
Did anybody go check out the exhibition . qualifier games a couple of weeks ago?
Probably not, since NOBODY knew about it.
Horrible advertising. (none = horrible)

Lebanon beats Canada 88-76.

Should I be happy or should I be sad. Well, at least I know I am well represented.

Basketball got 31 seconds of airtime on Sportscentre this morning, with 2
highlights from the Team Canada game, right at the end of the half hr. No
word of the game this morning at 9am either..
Hockey got probably about 12-14 minutes out of the half hr... with Nazm Khadr, chelios retiring, khabibulin drunk, and the new massive
NJ contract..

BAH.... it's annoying and unfortunate that the media doesn't push bball more. They give what the viewers want, I guess....
