Air Makers Inc. has really good prices on air conditioners from 10 seer to 14 seer. They carry Goodman, Keeprite, and American Standard.

Price includes installation, digital thermostat, winter cover, brackets, up to 25 ft of line set.

Air Makers Inc. assumes the warranty on the furnace.

Call 647-402-3341 and ask for Alvin.

I was really disapointed when both Sears and Home Depot referred me to a 800 number when I inquired about buying an air conditioning unit. I just don't see myself buying this type of item 'over the phone'.

For those who have already purchased theirs can you please provide me the name of the business and if you were able to get them to take over the furnace warranty?

Thanks!

If you want the right answers, don't you want to talk to the right people? Call the 800 number and they will send someone to your house to give you a quote and go over their model choices.

It's funny, most of these places I called for a quote too!

We ended up going with Convertible Air (because we were really concerned with quality, price, and the furnace warranty).

I believe their website is www.convertibleair.com

We had our A/C and Humidifier installed 2 weekends ago.

If you call, ask for Sandy, he's the owner.

What did everyone pay for thier unit, and were they Freon or Puron? Could someone tell me if you can tell if the unit is freon or puron by the Seer rating? (ex all 10 seer are freon, when 12 are puron)
Thanks

BTW, I called Selexair (has a group buy posted on the site) they are all out of 12 seer units. they said they have tHE Goodman CKL still available in R22 freon, no more 12 seer left however they have the new 13 seer.

I just purchased mine from Four Season Air Control.

ImageImage
There web site is http://www.fourseasonsac.ca/index.htm

I don't know why people aren't talking about prices, but maybe its because there is a lot of wheeling and dealing going on to get the best price. I might have gotten a little more expensive unit, but I think it will do the job.

Here's what I got.
TZA 2005 12 SEER Carrier Model with 5 year parts 10 year compressor warrenty
2 Ton Puron high efficency with high efficency carrier coil
Bracket
Winter Cover
Standard price is around $2875 discount $400=$2475 with mail in rebait of $150 ~ $2325

That is the approximate cost...I also added a Carrier Humidifier to be installed as well. ~$300
Standard price is $350 plus installation of $75

From what Shawn was telling me, that I would get better than 14 SEER because I have a Carrier furnace with the Carrier AC...somewhere around 15 SEER, but I would have to see some type of spec sheet or ...etc

Image

http://www.residential.carrier.com/prod ... nce.shtml#

If you were thinking about getting this 14 SEER AC as well, give Shawn a call because they only have 3 more units left in stock of the 2005's
Well these last 3 sold out in a couple of days I was told, just thought I would let you know.

I also listened to different models of AC's. This unit is around 69~70dB and was very quite. Goodman was noisy so was Napoleon & another make. It was neat to hear different manufacturers so that you could base your decision on that as well.

Here are some other items that I priced at 4Seasons

Carrier HRV ~2150 Installed

Package deal of 14 Seer AC & Carrier Air Cleaner & Carrier Humidifier $3025 less $150 mail in rebait = $2875

PS: Since Randy has my referal, please refer me Tim @ 1217 Robson in Milton.

Good luck in the AC hunt.

Tim

Oh yeah, here is their promo page: http://www.fourseasonsac.ca/promo.htm

If you want to see the brochure, PM me and I'll send it to you.

edit: was a little off on my totals & I changed it above.

You're right, everyone should be mentioning prices so people will have a better idea of where to start.

I guess it really depends on the brand you choose, Seer rating, house size and all that.

We also got a humidifier installed as well, and I believe it was $250 installed, so our grand total for our 2 tonne with taxes and everything (5 year warranty parts, lifetime compressor warranty, winter cover, etc.) was somewhere around $1800.

I can post the model and everything later, I don't have it now and I'm off to work.

Best of Luck finding an A/C everyone! I'm sure it will become a busy time for the companies as this beautiful weather continues!!

Laurie

So I just got through speaking with Convertible Air.....sort of a funny conversation though....I called the number servicing the "west" area. The lady was very nice....but was pushing for them to come to my house and give me a quote. I was trying to explain that i just wanted an over the phone quote, and that its easier for me to do it this way and she seemed quite puzzled by this...not sure why......after i repeatedly asked for someone just to call me to discuss she said " ok, someoone will call you in a couple of days"......is this wierd??.....all the other places i have called have had people who can give you a quote right away........

What number did everyone else call? They have other locations maybe i can call one of the other offices and speak to someone else....Can somene direct me?

Thats because it is a high pressure sales tactic where they are in your house and you feel obligated to give them the job because they are already there.

I was calling alot of Bryant dealers I got off their website and most of the numbers had "Bell" answering people. The ones I left messages with did call me back and gave quotes over the phone. What I felt was that they are small installers and are on the road so they need an answering service to do the work for them. If the installlers are really busy, a couple of days would be normal, but sales people should be the same day or at least one day later, otherwise I would take my business elsewhere (but thats just me...EL consumer)

I believe I called the 1-800 number and got Sandy, the president of the company.

He gave me a quote right over the phone, and then said I'd call him back if I was interested, and we called back to book the appointment a few days later.

I'm still trying to get specs on my AC unit to find out the total SEER rating, so hopefully I will have an update soon.

I have found out that 4 Seasons got 10 more units in stock, so if you are still interested give him a call.

A government program that offers consumers a $500 rebate on the purchase of high-efficiency central air conditioners got a cool reception yesterday, with critics calling the new campaign a half-hearted effort at encouraging energy conservation.

The Cool Savings campaign, to be launched on April 21, comes just before the Ontario Energy Board's announcement today of what is expected to be another round of electricity rate hikes for the millions of homeowners and small businesses across the province.

Energy Minister Donna Cansfield said there are two million central air conditioners in Ontario and the $15 million, three-year campaign aims to convert the least efficient of those systems into qualifying Energy Star systems.

The province's goal is to conserve 31 megawatts of electricity during the summer, when energy demand is at its peak and power-hogging air conditioners are cranked highest. "It's cheaper for the province to save a kilowatt than to generate a kilowatt," said Cansfield.

The program also offers a $50 rebate for homeowners that "tune up" their central air conditioner, and a $75 rebate on the purchase and installation of a programmable thermostat.

However, there's a catch: to enjoy any of the rebates the products and services must be purchased through a contractor that's registered with the industry's association, the Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada.

Conservative critic John Yakabuski said not letting homeowners install a programmable thermostat themselves essentially puts the rebate directly into the pockets of certified contractors, not consumers.

"Install a $75 thermostat for $300 and you get a rebate?" he said. "I've installed thermostats myself; they're not complicated."

Yakabuski also took issue with the fact the $500 rebate only applies to air conditioning systems with a seasonal energy efficiency rating of 14, or SEER 14. He said this could pose inventory problems for manufacturers who have stocked up on SEER 13 units, which still offer up to 40 per cent efficiency gains.

"When they devise these plans, who are they talking to?"

The program also does not cover the purchase of window air conditioners and is not retroactive, so anyone who has installed a system before April 21 does not qualify for the rebate.

Mark Winfield, director of environmental governance at the Pembina Institute, a non-profit environmental think-tank, called the province's announcement a small fragment of what so far amounts to a piecemeal conservation strategy.

"It's nothing like the scale of conservation we need." He added the McGuinty government has been throwing offers into the market and hoping individuals will respond, rather than engaging ratepayers with a comprehensive conservation plan. Peter Love, chief energy conservation officer with the Ontario Power Authority, called the campaign a first step and said more measures, including a refrigerator retirement program, will come later this year.

I heard this on 680 news yesterday and had it confirmed with four seasons today.

Rebait is only for old AC units upgrading to new 13+ SEER AC units. This does not work for our New homes.

Please correct me if my information is incorrect

That Star article doesn't mention it well.

The key word is convert. IE you have to have a old AC unit installed, then buy a new Energy Efficent model to get the rebait back.

Oh well, it was a nice try.
