Ok, heres my question for you. Mattamy has made it a standard where they will finish the garage for you ie full drywall & mud, but it seems that they are not putting in insulation at the non room sides. But as you can see, the far wall to the right in the first picture has insulation complete along the whole wall.

Should this be done around the garage door and the wall of the porch location as well?

I have inuslated above the garage door thinking that I would be making a difference and even gone further by insulating the garage door to stop heat loss, but maybe it was for not. I did take a hammer and knocked on the walls to see if the were hollow and they did sound like it.

If I have to, I will take the drywall down and insulate the walls the way I would have wanted it done.

If you are an energy star purchaser, maybe this is something you should think about or ask. If you are just before drywalling and it is not provided, maybe you could get in the house and put in your own insulation and vapour barrier. If I would have known there wasn't going to be any insulation there, I would have done it!!!

If you noticed, the first two pictures are September 9, 2005 and we closed on September 14, 2005...a mear 5 days later.

I just found September 11, 2005 picture of the garage & still no drywall & insulation around the garage door.

Anyway, just something to think about. I like Mike Homes would like to see things done better than CODE! And yes, those are all in caps

I believe it is code that is it all sealed and there are 2 coats of mud on all joints. No abouve your garage door there is no drywall and I think there should be drywall there as carbon monoxide can get into your house through there if you park your car in the garage.
