I guess we have lined up the first project for Mike; to start lobbying for a fourth line fix. The road has such a calming character with the creek alongside that it would be a shame if we don't curb the traffic!!!

Okay fair enough, however I do see buses (my experiences are on Trudeau, North of Derry) where the bus has stopped like 4 times at 4 different houses for 1-2 children per household!! Completely frustrates the hell out of me, and I find myself trying to swing down side streets to avoid being stuck behind it.

Why would you take to the side streets? Isn't it easier just to drive around the bus?

Ya totally...I just don't want someone writing down my license plate and taking the time out of their obviously not so busy day to go to the cops about it.

The new Council does not meet until December 6 and if this is a safety issue then it cannot wait. I have already contacted Town Staff and will post when I get a response.

To big_mac ---I hope your kidding, because driving around the school bus while it's stopped and loading kids is illegal and the whole reason for this discussion. If you're not kidding than I can't wait to write your plate down and turn it in.

It doesn't matter how busy or not busy my day is, I can always find time to observe the posted speed limit in a residential area as well as stop and wait for a school bus. I'd say that if you can't plan enough time to get where you have to be without speeding or passing a school bus while it loads kids than you need to leave earlier or deal with the fact that there are citizens who care enough to report you by writing down your plate. I'll bet if I came to your street and was speeding or passing a school bus while your children or your friends children were getting on the bus you would have a problem with it.

First off...you have no sense of humour, if you can't tell that big_mac and myself were joking. Relax a little.

Secondly, you should definitely win Citizen of the Year.

And lastly, I would probably shake my head and give you the finger but I certainly would not take time out of my day to stalk you and confront you or to go talk to the cops about it.

Should I also expect that you're going to follow me until you are able to confront me? If I notice you following me, I'll just drive to the police station so you can save some time. You can confront me and also report my plate to the police at the same time. I know you're busy chasing people around the city so I'll do what I can to help you out.

CS, I saw the same thing happen on Scott a couple weeks ago. There was about 10 of us behind a bus and this asshole just wizzes along the right side of us and passes the stopped bus while it's lights were going. If I could have caught up to him/her I would have taken plates down as well. If I was a bigger person, I'd confront people like this as well. :)

btw, who monitors your neighbourhood when you busy confronting people, or reporting plates to the police, or emailing traffic control, or being so holier than thou?

i am surprised you even have time to stop behind busses. with all these responsibilities you have you should save some time and just drive around them.

You don't know a thing about my sense of humor and why should I relax about this? So people can continue to drive like idiots till someone is hurt..

There's no stalking..it happened in front of my house on my street..all I had to do was get out of my car... and the Dr last week was in front of me and went to the same office building so yes I confronted him too. Trust me I realize that these people are not worth me going out of my way to "stalk" but it is worth my time to take action against it instead of sitting buy and doing nothing.

I said you have no sense of humour if you can't tell we were joking.

Yes, it's an issue that people pass buses, I GET IT.
What's a bigger issue is that the buses have to stop so many times on one street. 4th line is not that long of a road to LSL, I walk my dog up it all the time so I know that if you live at 4th and Derry you sure can walk your ass down to Clark to catch a bus, ditto if you're at 4th and LSL. There only needs to be ONE stop, maybe another added at LSL and 4th when that side gets built up.

Why is it illegal to go around a bus if they're only picking kids up? Kids can only get on the bus one way and that's on the right side, so why can't I pass on the left? I get it if the bus is dropping kids off because they can get off and run around the bus without looking, but when they're all standing on the sidewalk waiting to get on, what risk are they at if I pass slowly on the other side?

MJD03 & big_mac ..... you guys are totally acting like a bunch of a-holes ..... how would you feel if it was YOUR kid loading on the bus and some car had NO patience and tore off .... oh .... wait a minute .... you must not have any kids because you would UNDERSTAND what csmann3 is trying to say.

I too live very near 4th line and I lose count how many times I have seen cars go FLYING down there - day and night ..... you want to FLY down a road - go over to James Snow - NOT 4th line.

There are usually cars parked on the side of the road on 4th - and I get pissed a lot because of this - but then I stop and remember that this actually SLOWS people down - well MOST people.

Another thing ..... would you be saying the same things about 'stalking' and writing down plate #'s if you happened to see 2 kids bouncing around in the back seat of a car with no seat belts on ?? Or witnessed a guy weaving all over the road ?? Oh - or how about that guy who just took of swig out of that Crown Royal bottle ?? This is all the same s**t in my book ......

Ease up a little ......

Jo

It's illegal because kids might be crossing to catch the bus for pick up. You can't know where every kid might be when that bus is stopped. Maybe all the kids are lined up. Maybe one of them suddenly remembers the class "stuffy" that they're supposed to bring back today and runs out.

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/statut ... .htm#BK259

Duty of drivers when school bus stopped

(11) Every driver or street car operator, when meeting on a highway, other than a highway with a median strip, a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop before reaching the bus and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have stopped flashing. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 175 (11).

Idem

(12) Every driver or street car operator on a highway, when approaching from the rear a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop at least twenty metres before reaching the bus and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have stopped flashing. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 175 (12).

Officials also remind the public to report drivers who don't stop for school buses when their flashing red lights are activated and their stop signs and safety arms are extended. Such drivers could face fines ranging from $400 to $2,000 for a first offence and $1,000 to $4,000 and/or up to six months' jail time for subsequence offences.

This paragraph sums it up. You have zero credibility.

zero credibility for what?

Obviously I know it's illegal, and obviously I don't pass school buses. I was just making a comment, since there is nothing illegal about passing a city bus when they are stopped to pick up passengers, I think it's a valid question.

I dunno about that. I think the embarrassment of a police cruiser pulling into their driveway and a cop talking to them about the incident might be enough.

You think they follow up like that? What if some guy claims someone did that, but really it was someone who flashed them the bird for cutting them off? Id be suprised if they even made a report about that.
